91cruiser
My Pioneer FH-X830BHS headunit is in the center of the dash, RCAs run down the left side of the car and cross over behind back seats to amp rack in rear right quarter panel that has my Infinity REF704a and Cerwin Vega VPAS10 mounted to it. The power for these is ran from the battery on the right front, down the right side of the car, to the right rear. They are both grounded to a bare metal chassis bolt on the quarter panel. The right speaker cable is ran on the right side of the car from the amp rack, the left speaker cable is ran to the back of the cargo area, to the left rear quarter panel, along the left side of the car. This is in a 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser, and the noise is a rapid clicking that turns into a whine when the engine is at high revs. I've grounded the headunit at the same location as the amp. I've tried different sets of RCA cables, even running them over the seats, far away from any noise source. I've tried a different headunit (thought it was maybe the picofuse on my Pioneer) and a different amp. I've tried a digital in line noise supressor for my head unit (actually helped a wee bit). My power cables are adequate thickness and I've replaced all stock ground cables under the hood with fat marine grade cable. I think literally the only thing I haven't done is replacing wires that go from bat to alt, and that's cuz it would be a hell of a project with the way the 91 Land Cruiser is wired. My service records show this alternator was installed Oct. 15, 2001 at 138,217 miles. So almost 19 years and 75k miles old. My battery is a brand new Interstate MT-27. RCA's I've tried: https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_38866_Stinger-SI4417.html https://www.crutchfield.com/S-3QVHUVAQAhj/p_120RCA174/T-Spec-4-Channel-RCA-Patch-Cable.html Power cable I'm using: https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_46868_NVX-XW8BL20.html Speaker wire: https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_49559_NVX-XWS1650.html Noise supressor: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120ANR1000/Axxess-AX-ANR1000.html Any insight would be fantastic. Questions, comments, nothing is too far fetched at this point. Thanks in advance.
MrSkippyJ
Have you turned it on with the RCAs unplugged from the amp? If the noise goes away, try it with them plugged in to the amp bit unplugged from the headunit. Best thing to do is to isolate what is causing the issue.
