SwissBliss
Hello SMD! Long time lurker, first time poster. I have an Isuzu Vehicross that I am building into a really cool vehicle. I would like to add 2 Sundown X8's to my current setup of 1 JL Audio 10" W7. That is currently in a standalone ported box, but I will be replacing it with something like this (another VX owner made a storage box but I want subs in the front): 2 Sundown 8 Inch X-8 subwoofers (ported) 1 10" JL Audio W7 - (Ported or sealed based on your recommendation) I would like to retain the rear drawer, it will most likely cut reduced in size by half once I figure out dimensions. Keep the driver side space for aux battery and amps. Electrical is already all sorted out, just need help with box design. Mainly how to best utilize these woofers. Ported or Sealed for the JL? I am leaning towards sealed as I have plenty of power and want the JL to handle all of the mid and higher low range frequencies. 3 Separate chambers? Would probably be easiest, but building a sealed chamber for the 10W7 within the ported box shouldn't be that difficult. Sundowns tuned between 28hz-32hz JL W7 tuned to 36hz+ Port Location: Your recommendation Layout: JL in the middle, sundown on each end Speaker location: Towards front of vehicle What do you guys think? I know its alot but I definitely came to the right place. I think it has the potential to be a super functional box and allows me to have it really clean and maximize space and be organized. 1point21gigawatts
Do not mix subwoofer sizes or different subwoofer enclosures. Bad sound quality. Different sounds clashing. Pick one size and pick one type of enclose and if ported, then pick one tuning frequency. “How can we help you?” “And don’t forget to tell them that the customer isn’t always right.”
Backwoods
Yeah mixing sizes is already not recommended, but that would also be mixing subs with completely different parameters. Not a great idea. Singer 250amp Alt, Singer PCM bypass harness Titan8 Lithium Underhood safe BCI PWR-S5 Big 3 W/ dual runs of power/ground. Backwoods
I'd suggest selling the W7 and getting 2 (same) 10s or 12s and building a good ported box to their specs. Or if you like the W7, just get another one and build a box for both of them to go in.
