That's not really something that's a huge concern. If the head units doesn't distort at full blast, after you set your gains correctly, your amps will give out, let's just say for the sake of argument, 3000 watts. Now if your head unit max undistorded volume is 25 out of 30, after you set your gains correctly, your amp will give out 3000 watts.

Pioneer head units have always been my go to since I bought my first one in 2001.i wouldn't buy the bottom of the line deck in the series, but all, in my opinion, are high quality and are pretty user friendly

Nothing wrong with that. If you like it, keep it. You'll still get your wattage as long as you set the gains correctly

I like pioneer head units, but like previously mentioned, all you do is find the max undistorted volume with the amp gains down, then adjust your amp gains to their max undistorted sensitivity at that volume. You'll still get the max output, get yourself a pocket oscilloscope or a DD-1 if you don't already have one. I have an oscilloscope but I've considered a DD-1 numerous times. I'm sure I'll eventually take the plunge for DD-1's ease of use if they stay affordable.
