Car Wont Crank

Recommended Posts

so you would say my best bet is to just go uo to advanced, or a local car electric shop and let them look at the alt and my battery

That depends. If it is a 1986 Yugo, you should probably just push it off a cliff...

Check the BATTERY voltage with the engine off. If you do not have a DMM or other test type meter, then you are going to be at the mercy of the autoparts store.

You are talking about adding batteries anyway, so buying a new battery is not a big deal. Start with a good deep cycle / cranking type marine battery. Since you are going cheap, go to Walmart, and get one of those MAx 65 type batteries - about 80 bucks.

The United States Marine Corps. When it absolutely, positively has to be destroyed overnight - even if "it" belongs to the base commander...

i took it to a alt/electric specialist, and he said the battery is good, and the alt is charging it. he unplugged the alt, and the noise stopped. but the noise, and the dead battery might be from a bad diode. what would this mean? i need a new alt? im gonna let him look at it tomorrow in the morning. on the way back my amps quit working

I'm not quite sure what he did, but it sounds like your alt is bad. shouldnt be terribly expensive to have someone rewind it or buy a 200 amp delco from advance.

And a good sealed type battery is not cheap. Your pretty much looking at Kinetik, Odyssey, Powermaster, Deka, or Optima batteries.

You could run multiple yellow or blue tops, but your looking at about four of those for the power your running and thatd be close to 800.

Kinetik, odyssey, or powermaster are also pretty expensive.

I cant remember the store, but someone was selling the huge deka the one that outperformed a kinetik 2400 for around 240 shipped. and there was a group buy on roe for em.

it cranked after i charged the battery. when i hooked the negative back up to the battery after i installed my cd player, it sparked. which the negative shouldnt spark, right? but that was like a week ago

Your wire is sparking because You are putting a charge back into everything.

Same thing happens when I unhook my battery to mess with my amp.

It's just charging the caps in the amp back up.

now my 2 amps wont cut on. but car cranks. kickers manual says something about if the alternator screams what is happening, they said damaged rcas, not proper grounding of the head unit. how would i have "improperly" grounded the head unit, it was to be the head unit, bc all was good until i put it back in

Run a wire from the outer jacket of the RCA to a screw on the back of the radio.

how should i ground the unit itself? just twist the wires from ground on the unit and the ground cable for the car?

bc thats what i did, and i put tape over it
