How similar is it to fiberglass weave? oh and i know about the clear epoxy J. It'll make you cough up the red stuff.. you know, blood. Trust me. I have like a yard in my shed and resin etc.. I have like 4 blocks i need to sand into knifes but its so disgusting to sand. makes me want to cough up more blood thinking about it. Also, hes right about the touching.. you're not allowed on the night you let it dry. if the resin sits too long and you need to apply more it'll resist itself. crazy shit man.. be careful. FCsteve Posted June 8, 2008 Report Share Posted June 8, 2008 (edited) you wont cough blood ..... ive made 2 sunroof delete panels and a spare tire well delete all out of carbon fiber and ive made plenty of other projects our of fiberglass. ive never worn a mask and ive never had anything wrong with my breathing whether i used power or hand sanding methods. to the OP you will sand your hand off and a nice carbon fiber product isnt nearly as easy as a nice fiberglass piece. i reccomend a couple test pieces. As said above, I would not want to directly inhale the dust, mild exposure is probably ok, but I wouldn't want to breath dust from anything I am sanding. Second, Don't expect to get all the lines nice and straight, unless you go through with a toothpick and straighten them. The best way i have ever seen to apply resin, if you have excess resin, is to lay out some plastic on the ground. Lay out the cloth weave, either carbon or fiberglass. Then, pour resin onto the fiber and roll it out with a roller [a metal roller wont absorb resin and wont leave lint]. Flip and repeat, voila, you have a saturated piece of cloth and it helps keep the lines straight. [This is an industrial method for wetting out fiberglass and carbon fiber pipeline repair kits]. I can answer lots of questions probably, carbon fiber vs. fiberglass was one of my extended essays my senior year. Well since your a doctor its ok to breathe shards of carbon fiber in your lungs.. ive had to router and sand the enged of everything ive made. its dust. even the huge pieces that come off the router have never affected my breathing in the least bit. unprotected arms will itch like a motherfucker for days but thats the worst of it. even a complete idiot wouldnt stand there mouth open with theire face at the level they ar sanding or trimming .. but then again it seems liike you've expierenced it .. so ... i guess that speaks for itself. I dont plan on making it straight but im just trying to prevent it wrinkling or anything like that J.
