Ernesto

Which subs would be better if my friend is looking for a louder daily driver?

Ok so my friend wants to add some bass to his ride. We have been debating and so far are undecided on which would be a louder setup. We are down to pick between either the Alpine Type Rs or the Kicker L5s.Im going with the L5s because they handle a little more pore, and offer a little more cone area than the TypeR. I have also had nothing but a good experience with Kicker. Then again, I have no experience at all with any Alpine products and have heard nothing but very good things about them.My friend also wants to know if you could compare two 12" Type Rs in a ported box tuned to 32hz to Four 12" Kicker L7s sealed. I told him the L7s may be louder but not by much.

L7's will Drop kick the R's ass, cone area difference is huge.port those  L7's and look the hell out, they get pretty loud, I was really happy with mine until I found that they wouldnt take a modded RF BD1501 to well, smoked them badboys.I will say the 2 l7 12's hammered before the spiders gave up, hell even after that they still hammered after that they just made alot of other noises hahahahaI went threw 4 type R 12's before I finally told my local shop I wanted my money back and to shove those R's up someones ass.  yea they get loud but the build qaulity sucked balls everyone had the same issue the damn surround came unglued from the cone.

some of those guys swear by the Type R and i too think they sound OK....but i did see one de-laminate itself in front of my own eyes.  The glue came off the surround and it was just floppin around with no suspension.  That was only off 400 watts.  I guess sometimes it can happen to any woofer though so who knows.  Maybe the glue issue has been resolved since around 2 years ago when this happened.  Other than that it sounded pretty good.
