What's The Highest Strand Count You Know Of

Recommended Posts

LMAO no comment

I said speaker wire amps put out AC current so the the thicker the strands for speaker wire then the less resistence but for power wire then smaller strands would be better.

edit: am I reading something wrong here or something? I must be b/c I' tired.

with a sub, the frequency will be to low to have "skin effect"

IMO smaller more strands is better, it would be more flexible, and possibly more surface area, if they are both 1/0 I would say the thinner multistrand would have more area becuase it has more strands, seeing how electricity flows across the wire and not through it.

better go back to school

The skin effect is the tendency of an alternating electric current (AC) to distribute itself within a conductor so that the current density near the surface of the conductor is greater than that at its core. That is, the electric current tends to flow at the "skin" of the conductor. The skin effect causes the effective resistance of the conductor to increase with the frequency of the current. Skin effect is due to eddy currents set up by the AC current.

mine is copy and pasted, but only because I wasnt 100% sure of myself.

Damn, i was gonna say that you know your stuff... but you had to look it up. lol A plus for the effort of looking it up.

Edit: At least you did make sure you got it right. To the head of the class you go....

So the skin affect doesn't take affect on sub wire or does it?

Yes, because amp out put is ac. But your talking maybe loosing less then a watt, you would need some pretty pricey equipment to even tell.

Edit: basically you would loose more "energy/watts" from having your speaker wire too long then from the resistance of the shielding.

believe me or not, I actually knew it, but it had been sooo long since school, I had to double check it, isntead of just sayin

your wrong, or nope that doesnt apply to DC current, I googled it and copy and pasted, instead making myself look dumb I doubled checked.

the output of a amp is AC yes, but the frequency of the signal is low , so I dont think your losing anything, besides the speaker wires are usally not real long your not gonna lose hardly anything.
