LSN2meBoom916
Ok guys, as promised here's the RSX I did a couple years ago for my good buddy from High school. The goal here: Build a decent/moderate setup, that looked nice but could be 100%HIDDEN. This guy's dad, who bought him the car, would literally murder him if he knew he put a system in it and how much he spent on it.Thus it had to be "STEALTH MODE". To this day, after 2 1/2 yrs of his pops borrowing this car to go golfing, he still has no clue it's there. MIND you, the deck face was never there so he cant listen to it but it's pretty well hidden is all i'm sayin, as were my instructions. He worked at Best Buy @ the time and supplied all parts via his employee accomodation. Here's what I had to work with: Deck: Clarion VRX925VD indash DVD player Front mids: Fosgate FNP 6 1/2" Component set Rear Mids: Fosgate FNP 6 1/2" Component set (had to get a lil creative to mount em) Subs: 2-Fosgate HE2 12's (D2's) Sub Amp: Fosgate 501X Mid Amp: Fosgate 401S 4 channel The exterior pix of the car are just some that I found online cuz I didnt take any pix of the outside of the car while I had it (I should start). But it WAS Black, a type-S, had the big GROSS (IMO) Wing... -and stock everything else. Here she goes: Front shot of one w/ no wing (non type S) Gauges ooooh... Here's his Clarion VRX925VD indash he had already when he brought it to me... Later switched to an Avic D1 and added the center channel for D5.1 surround. Fosgate tweeters in the stock dash location I had to make 3/4" mounting rings for the front mid-woofers so the magnets would clear the window in the door... And they worked out The rears were a lil tricky just cuz there was no place for the tweeter, so it got surface mounted BEHIND the interior panel as you see here... I had to shave quite a bit off of the backside of the panel to open it up for the sound to get out but it worked perfectly and sounded really nice to my surprise (RF ftw i guess) I made sure to take this pic w/ the screwdriver pointing out the tweeter hiding behind the panel cuz otherwise you'de never know it was a comp set unless you pulled the whole panel which runs 3/4 the length of the car.stock look FTW. OK so here's the before of the trunk. So I tore that down to nekkid and started by maskingwith DUCT tape & foiling off the trunk area Layed a layer or 2 of resin/fiberglass/more resin http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box02.jpg Pulled it out for some trimming http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box03.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box06.jpg The trunk/tire well after I pulled the tub http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box04.jpg I dropped it back in and realized I had needed the side parts to be ON TOP of the side panels not UNDER damnit! http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box92-1.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box07.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box08.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box8-1.jpg So here we go re-glassin it ON TOP this time (re-mask/foil) http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box09.jpg Then when I pulled it the 2md time I had this sexy bish http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box9-1.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box2-2.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box1-2.jpg Ok so once that was all straightened out.... I made this frame/insert that I could mount the top boards to- http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box3-1.jpg And I shit you not, 5 minutes after this pic was taken, I punched thru a thin spot in the fiberglass/bondo i was jabbing with 1/2" chisel and CUT A 2" GASH IN MY LEFT PALM! ******HOLY-I'M BOUT TO BLACK OUT F*CKING HELL!!!!******** That hurt. I'd been staying up to work on this beezy trying to finish it within the 7 day deadline, and skipping meals, so when I lost that much blood I started gettin all tunnel vision and had to take a break. In some of the next shots you can see the "bandage" around my left hand as i'm wiring it up...The show must go on yo. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/wiring1.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box93-1.jpg It was a rush wire job as it was deadline time and I was 2 days from being done on it but in the end I think it came out ok. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box4-1.jpg I threw together a lil cover piece for the middle to hide the wires http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMGP0614.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box6-1.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/box5-1.jpg He took his floor carpet to a shop and had em sew it up pretty nice. I put some 1/8" plexi over the amps just for a lil protection and they didnt get warm at all under it http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMGP0608.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMGP0610.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMGP0611.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMGP0613.jpg Subs sit 3/4" under floor level for clearence. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMGP0615.jpg Bass knob up front http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMGP0620.jpg All done. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/Done.jpg Cover back in place so pops doesn't see whats underneath http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMGP0607.jpg I think thats it folks. LSN2meBoom916
Thnx Pokey. Yea, the fact that I didn't have to raise the floor level at all + that lil rubber cover goes a long way in concealing what's underneath. I liked how he still had essentially his WHOLE trunk left, and could roll around bumpin it even w/ stuff in the trunk no worries. I was pleased with the outcome and even got to enjoy ridin around in it a bit down in San Louis Obispo where he went to college (Cal Poly) Some good times. Worth the pain for sure.
