1991 Nissan 300zx Cpe. Build.

Recommended Posts

I kinda  :hj: a while back on the "got a new car" (Black 300zx) thread b4 I even knew what that term meant, so i figg'd I should post this setup over here where it belongs.

I have since told the owner about the site and he said it's cool to post the build.

The "Minimalist" System was:

Eclipse Cd (He had it already I forget the mod ##)

Arc Audio KAR 230 5 1/4's comp set in doors.

No rear fill yet but the power is there (5 ch amp)

Phoenix Gold Otcane R 9.0:5 5 channel amp

(2) Alpine Type R 10's (Later traded out for Cadence 10's until more airspace is avail)

Custom 2 tone vinyl box in spare tire well with cover and grills

"Z" Amp rack by yours truly (no lights yet other than blue LED on amp logo).

Ride:Black 1991 Nissan 300zx Z32 cpe. (Pretty sexy Ride IMO)

Here's the trunk minus carpet/trim.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Time to get crackin: Tape/foil off trunk. & Lay some base resin down to get in them nooks/crannies/crevices of the spare tire well.

Posted Image

Cut out the silly-lookin frame/mounting ring (i likeded it).

Posted Image

Drop 'er in there to check the fit.

Posted Image

Cut the top board that will be the new trunk floor/top of the tire-well box.

Posted Image

"Hang" the subs to make sure I have enough depth for them chunky magnets.

Posted Image

Cut the OVAL that will allow the subs to sit counter-sunk.

Posted Image

Attached the lower-level TOP to which the subs get mounted (hence the big holes)

Posted Image

The cut outs are just for a lil weight reduction since those areas are not needed and it actually cut a decent amount of weight off to do it.

It may be hard to see in these pics but there is a brace down the center just like in my box for the 4-12's and 2-15's in my car. I always do The Elephant test and stand/jump up and down on the bottom to make sure it's good and sturdy. Box Flex is BAAD.

Posted Image

Top on test fitting.

Posted Image

Subs as they will be mounted. Still playing around with amp placement.

Posted Image

Once I put 100Billion screws..or 200 screws in the topboard to secure that bish, i hit it w/ some flat black b4 I decided what color to vinyl it.

Posted Image

And then for the covering. Headliner material for a lil padding (brown).

Posted Image

Ladies be callin at the worst times i swurr. Drill in one hand, celly in the other.

Posted Image

Here's the components in the door. Only one pic srry, But the other side was the same.

I just deleted the stock BOSE boxes and cut a 1/4" mdf template of where it mounted. Used the stock mounting screws. Worked out fine.

Here's the box all vinyled.

So the Amp rack cover was a "hurry up" since he had a carshow/meet to get to.

Here's what I came up with.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/5d21scd.jpg

It's 1/4" mdf top and some 3/4" underneath for depth, then I sprayed it black to make sure the all black would look ok against the tan interior (whick would be switched to black interior later anyhoo)

Here it is at that show he went to (all Nissan...Damn near all Z's) Voted best Install

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMG_7507.jpg

Vinyling that Z was a MUTHA :ranting2:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMG_7508.jpg

You can kinda see in the pics I put 1/8" plexi under it. Most folks that see it like that part.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a68/CasperDaBoi/Projects/IMG_7510.jpg

The oval insert is black vinyled and the oval under that is white so when the cover is off he can show off the subs nice w/ the white background and cover em up for a stealthy look and Alpine grills protect the subs which are also sunken in 1" to protect them.

The cover is a lil OUT of the oval cuz he kept having to take it out to show the subs/vinyle underneath and how it worked for the onlookers, but it fits flush if you push it all the way in.

That's it for now.

He has the BASS bug baaad now. Next setup should be a banger. He's saving up. I'm planning/designing.

I will post the rebuild prolly summertime-ish.

Thnks.

It was "informal" cuz only a "meet" and not a show so no prize or trophy but good to hear nonetheless.

ugh so typical of you to do amazing work :usd: :sarcasm: :usd: :sarcasm: :usd: :sarcasm:

looks nice and clean like usual :w00t:

LOL!

HA! thanx again guys. I'm glad you like my work. Truthfully the hardest thing for me is convincing my buddies they need systems haha. Then It's just fun to try and build something crazy or to keep it in line w/ the demands of the owner (not always easy but fun nonethe less).

Any body in the NORCAL/Sacramento area need some help/install work done feel free to hit me up. I cram as many steups in during the summer while I'm off school, but things don't seem to be dying down this winter, I've been busy as ever.

I'll post anything I get done just to make sure you guys still approve.

Comments welcome and much appreciated.
