How? Port Displacement....and Box Design...

ok so just because i dont trust myself.... correct me if im wrong...

i need to cut out..

(3) 23" x 30"

(2) 12.75" x 28.5"

(2) 12.75" x 23"

so.... my interal deminsions will be

28.5" wide

21.5" deep

12.75" tall

=4.52 gross internal volume

minus....

(4) 3" ports x13" long

.042 x 4=.17

and driver displacement

.05 x 4=.2

total displacement= .37cuft

i end up with...

a net volume of 4.15 and a tuning of 35HZ or just under.....

ugh... took me awhile... i had to understand it for myself... some of my calculations are a bit off by some .00x but it kinda becomes pointless after awhile.... does my math look pretty decent? let me know what you guys think.....

BUMP.... oh here we go again....

well ive been convinced by many people to change my design from the (4) 3" ports to (3) 4" ports.... i got kinda confused... idk i guess my brain just isnt working today... 3 posts up i had my plans figured.... so im thinking my (3) 4" ports need to be 17" long but im not sure.... does anybody have a quick answer???

i just am having trouble thinking today....

Max dimensions - 23"long X 37"wide X 15"tall external

Max 21.5"long X 35.5"wide X 12.75"tall internal, assuming 3/4" wood and double top baffle.

4 ft^3 NET

0.2 driver displacement

(3) 4" ports. 4 ft^3 volume, 35 Hz tune - Length is 17.8"

Port displacement is .42 ft^3

Gross volume if 4.62 ft^3 = 7984 in^3

Use max height and depth, 12.75 x 21.5 = 274.125

7984 / 274.125 = 29.125 internal width. +1.5 = 30.625 (30.5 is close enough)

Final box:

30.5 wide x 23" long x 15" tall.

Double the top baffle

(3) 4" ports, 17.75" long

so if i did 30" wide.... the 17" long ports would be fine right? either way it wouldnt make much of a difference i dont think....

Less width = less volume = higher tuning frequency with the same length ports.

Shorter ports = higher tuning frequency.

But in your case, less width and shorter ports should be ok, since you wanted 35-40 Hz tuning.

Are you doing PVC or aero ports? Aero's come as long as 17", but the end correction makes them look like they are 16" long. . .

well i got the boards cut out today.... ive been tied up working on the motor of the lumina lately... ima head over to lowes in the morning and grab the 4" pvc... i need to do a little sanding to the edges because i used a shitty scroll saw... but they came out pretty good so hopefully if everything goes according to plan ill have the box assembled tomorrow.... i also bought a can of spray adhesive for carpeting... ive never carpeted my own box before so it should be interresting... but i will for sure update you on the build!!!!!
