Ray
no amp takes optical in. the audison bitone is the only piece out there that takes toslink in and gives digital out. there is a m.o.s.t piece coming soon that will take fiber in and convert to rca. 2008 California state record holder 157.2 Bassrace2009 California state record holder 157.0 BassraceRollin 50's 158.7db2009 King of Cali Bassrace2009 USACi score 160.5 @ 42hz
Moti
IMO if it is rare to find in home audio amps, it will most definitely be rare to find in car audio.

Boon
HDMI carries the audio as a digital stream so you would need a DAC anyway. May as well use an outboard DAC and just use the analog input on the amps if you're so fixed on getting the audio from HDMI. Maybe get a small home theater receiver and an inverter and use that to get your 8 channels of analog audio from, hide it away somewhere. You're never going to find a car amp with HDMI because as mentioned above it's mostly there for connecting a source (video AND audio) to a receiver that does all the tricky stuff. It's not designed as a receiver - amplifier interconnect which essentially what you want to use it for. Car amps don't usually have digital in because it would add a huge amount of cost and complexity to them and you'd get better output from a dedicated outboard processor like a BitOne, Pioneer P9 Combo or Alpine H701 (IIRC) 10.x volts fo' life!
