Boon
Seriously, just cancel the Beats by Dre. They are so, so tremendously shit. I have never been more disappointed by the sound of a headphone. I've owned and built several headphone amps. Greatest improvement in sound in your whole setup IMO. Just like car audio - there's no point running a pair of $1000 components straight off your deck. A well-amped set of cheaper speakers will sound better than poorly powered expensive drivers. Even if you just build/buy a ChuMoy and feed it with a decent power supply (24v works well) you will be blown away by the improvement. Quote 10.x volts fo' life! Gavinvoy
Im looking really hard at the AKG's they look really nice, and have some good reviews (pretty much all i can go on). plus just found that they are owned by harmon international (harmon/kardon, JBL, Infinity, Mark Levinston, ....) as for the Cmoy. doing a little research (cause school is a pain right now, last 3 weeks always are) look pretty neat. not really sure what to look for. checked out ebay under "cMoy" found a few, seems to be mostly by one dude for the mint can looking ones. do you know if they are any good? here is one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-Cmoy-headphone-a...=item3a556f983d
Boon
Honestly I've never run a 'vanilla' CMoy. They're so simple that I've always gone the whole hog and done buffered output ones with discrete rail splitters and blah blah the list goes on Yes, they sound very good for what they are and what they cost. Slinky
so i know nothing about high quality headphones. can you use some Sennheiser HD555's with an mp3 player like an iphone or do you need some sort of amplifier? Boon
That Cmoy on Ebay should be portable unless I'm very much mistaken. 1x9v battery. Go for the AKG's IMO. EDIT: No idea why he's using OPA2227 though. If you get it swap them out for OPA2134 or 2132 assuming they're pin-compatible, pretty sure they are.
