bibby>Chode
So i've had an iPhone since they came out way back in 07. I've always had the black one since you had an option of colors. Recently i began to wish my iPhone was white. What are my options? Buy a new one right? I use my iPhone on tmobile, so no upgrades for me, I would have to buy one outright. I plan on getting a new one when/if a new one comes out this summer. I did some googling and found you can buy just the back housing of the iPhone. So i bought it, and set it up. You need 3 things... White iPhone housing - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320482593012&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT White sim tray - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320482593012&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT White silent switch - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370219826849&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I also bought an incipio feather case in white. I've never had a case on my iPhone bc i don't like how thick they make it feel(This is also why it looks like complete crap). We sell these at work, but not in this color, or at 5.99, LOL - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270526792030&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I followed this tutorial step by step to take my iPhone apart http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/iphone3g/iphone3grepairguide.html All in all, i am very pleased at the outcome on this. The phone feels and looks brand new and its the color i always wanted it to be. All for $10.31 shipped. $16.30 Shipped if you count the incipio case. Here are my pics... Everything setup to get started. iPhone compared to housing Back view, Look at how terrible my phone looks screen out And here is where i forgot to take pics until i was done. I'm really bad at that Back side, the reason for all the trouble Front looks the same

EricR
Looks sweet dude. I've had mine since november of 08 right after they released the 3g and its in way worse condition than yours lol. I also work in a fabrication shop and always fuckin with it. Dropped it countless times, front screen is cracked all to hell but still works 100%. I have an upgrade coming next month but I have also been hearing about the new one possibly coming out this summer so I may wait and just replace the screen on this one. bibby>Chode
The screen is really easy. 2 screws then pop it out, then 5 screws holding the glass to the LCD. I separated my glass and lcd to clean it bc there was a alot of dust in there. I'm also thinking about buying a new glass b/c its scratched to hell and looks bad on the nice new housing. cqtama
awesome, but why not just put the case on without changing the whole back of the phone? Computer monitor... http://www.facebook....100000065647448 awesome, but why not just put the case on without changing the whole back of the phone? bc then i'm just covering a black iphone with a white case. Now i have a white iphone with a white case. The protective case wasnt the point of this. I wasnted a white iphone. I just got the case to keep my white iphone from looking as terrible as my black one did. Edited March 7, 2010 by bibby
EricR
btw you need to charge it lol, hope they do something about the battery life on the new one. there are things you can do to reduce battery usage but either way the 3g and internet usage eats it up fast.
