why is it bad to use bass boost on amp

Recommended Posts

rf has bassboost st 45hz, hence the punch name, as it's supposed to add punchiness to the system moreso than volume.

my amp (jbl) gives a knob not only for bass boost, but frequency. the theory is that if i notice a dip in response at say, 34hz, i can give 34hz a little boost to flatten out the response. it works great and is an awesome tool if used correctly.

most amps have a switch/button or just a knob. these are basically just turning up the gain, and we all know that if the gain is too high then the amp will clip and distort and bad things will happen. as a general rule you do not use bass boost on these amps because they should be capable of giving their full output without it, and adding it in just causes distortion.
