Road Side Air Line Repair Howto

Recommended Posts

Heres a short how to on what you can do to repair a popped air line on the side of the road.

your going to need

knife

air line

jack if need be

2 1/2 inch ptc unions im using 1/2 because thats the size air line I have you'll need what ever size union that matches your air line.

you should have this stashed away in you vehicle even if you don't need it you might be able to help a down brother some day.

If its a pin hole leak you can simply cut the air line out so theres a small gap make sure the your cuts are as strait as possible and free of burs

now simply push to connect

if the air line is split or has a large hole cut the air line so the hole is removed then cut your self a fresh chunk out of your spair air line. then use the 2 ptc unions to connect your air line

not shown is a piece of heater hose i carry to. If the air line popped due to it rubbing on some thing you can put the heater hose over the air line. This is only a temporary fix designed to get you home. Once your home remove the patched air line and heater hose and fix it correctly ;)

Great tutorial. With more and more people bagging their vehicles..this will probably be needed here pretty shortly.

not to mention... it will help with overload air bags, and ARB air locking differentials also FTW!!!

its a great post P.....something you learn very fast to keep on hand especially if your install is new and the bugs arent worked out yet. Stuff you dindt think would rub a hole in the line WILL.....ive been almost stranded twice and having this in the glove box saved my AZZZZ. (mine were compression not push on but both equally good IMO, Push on being much faster)

This post gets a sticky fo-show...

its also a good idea to carry some extra airline, a flashlight and a few schrader valves in case you bust a valve, you will still be able to get around until you can fix the problem. helped me out on a 400 mile trip once, valve decided to take a "dump" on me in the middle of nowhere at 230 in the morning! it was a great spark show but scared the crap outta me!
