Dan208
I'm starting to get back into car audio again (on a personal level) and anyone that knows of me knows that I absolutely love Kicker subwoofers and mids and tweets. So heres a couple of shots of my latest set up. What you don't see is the Alpine CDA-117 CD player and the Kicker QS65.2's in the factory locations. My amps are the same as always and they are a modded RF 1501BD and a Sundown SAX-125.2. The car is a 2000 Saturn wagon and the subs are the Solo-Classic 10's. So far in this car in a 6 month period I have ran 1 Alma Gates L7 ported which is proof that a square sub can have unbelievable sound quality (WoW). Then I switched that out for 2 15 inch RF HX2s but in the end I wanted just my Solo-Classics and I'm very very happy with this setup and I have no plans to change anything with the exception of one amplifier change. LOL yes I need to clean up the wiring to the crossovers. Man, I wish I could afford some Solo-Classics. My first REAL sub was an original 10" Solobaric. Still one of my favorite subs ever. ISO
How do you like the solo classics? Are they more for SQ, SPL, or a little bit of both? Man I'm pretty satisfied. They are loud and they do sound good. They get as loud if not louder then an L7 at certain frequencies, they just don't go as low and not supposed too. Power handling is rite at spec. I usually like to have an extra 200 watts per sub but not with these, anything over 450 watts and it raised concerns of messing up the spiders like I have done to L7s. It just seamed like the cone was wanting to launch out of the basket. So I don't recommend over power these. I'm very happy to have them but I just recently put my L7s back in until I can build a box for all 4 of my Solo-Classics. I like to run most of my systems with an average of 9db of boost at 45 hertz and with these I don't feel that is needed and might also be to my feeling of being afraid of launching the cones too far. I'm happy with them but won't be running them again until I build a new box for all 4 of them. Hey if you have the power why not use it. Isobaric - Refers to the practice of coupling two drivers together to make them act as one. "Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak; sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go." Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The Destruction of a person builds character.
