there or straight from the amp alot of people prefer so they see what the amp is seeing. blue wire is remote so hook it to the remote input on your amp or from the headunit

will hooking it up to the remote wire on the amp be about the same as having it on the power wire?

You hook the turn on for the gauge to the turn on for the amp.

From what I've read, it doesn't really matter that much where you connect. In a good charging system you should only have a few tenths of a volt difference.

That said, I'd connect to where the amp is. That's where a voltage reading really matters IMO.

You may be offended by the above. Don't take it personally, I'm just abrasive.

if you are talking about hooking up the volt meter blue wire to power wire then no because it will always be on even when the car is off and will eventually drain your battery

It really makes no difference where you install it at. It won't run down your battery. Volt meters draw very little current, much like a car clock or alarm. Like others have noted, if you have a solid electrical you will suffer little to no voltage drops across the circuit. If you have a bad electrical circuit then you really have no reason even installing a volt meter. Just install it where it is most accessible.

The King.
