MECHMAN
Just did a custom unit for another member on here. On the dyno it did just shy of 320 amps at 1800 rpm engine speed, 165 amps by 650 rpm engine speed. The fan cooled external rectifier means maximum cooling, even at low engine speeds, so it is virtually impossible to overheat. Peak output with the external rectifier falls less than 7% from 77 degrees to 250 degrees. (As compared to the typical 15%) Bring on the Dee-beez. MECHMAN
ah matthew it's a malibu not a impala lol don't worry everyone thinks my car is a impala haha how's the mustang going man? Coming along slowly but surely... I got the crank in over the weekend, hopefully should have the short block finished this week, hopefully have the engine back in the car by next weekend. I'm going to make some vids of it bumping with no engine in the car, just to show how badass those D1400 batts are. MECHMAN
Is that a transformer in the box, whats the step down, Delta-Wye Nope, no transformer. The box is an external dual rectifier assembly. It allows us to QUADRUPLE the diode capacity of the stock rectifier to handle the extra current. By mounting it remotely, is also takes all the heat produced by the diodes away from the windings of the alternator. Also, because it is fan-cooled, it has tons of air flow, regardless of engine speed. This means that the alt stays cool, no matter what the conditions. MECHMAN
I have dual alts on a 5.3 Yukon, could I run two 320 amp on it? You could, but the brackets would have to be modified. It would probably be more cost effective to add a third alternator, there is generally room on those trucks.
