If it were resting at 12.8 v it souldn't be hard to charge or taking a higher current charge to begin with. What is the voltage on your alternator? 12.8 - 13 volts is fine if it was kept up on and not allowed to sit low then just toss it on an alternator to charge it up. An optima battery in general can withstand a higher voltage than other 12v agm batteries 15-15.6 volts. So if your alternator/regulator is on its way out it most likely would be the last agm battery to go.

Overcharging a Car Battery

•While a few variables may be involved with overcharging a car battery, the results are simple to check. A battery can quite simply die from being overcharged. This is the safest side-effect, but not the only thing that can happen. An overcharged battery will boil the sulfuric acid and distilled water mix. The casing of the battery can become hot to the touch, and begin to melt or swell. Flammable hydrogen can build up inside the sealed cells of the battery, causing swelling of the casing under pressure and seepage through small vents. Once the hydrogen is introduced to oxygen, it becomes a sitting time bomb. A small electrical spark can ignite the gas and cause the battery to explode, sending plastic and lead shrapnel flying around, in addition to a caustic sulfuric acid spray. Obviously, this is the most dangerous side-effect of an overcharged battery.

ok so the one i have in my house i should be worried about because it sits a 12.99 right now after about 3 days is this a lil high

he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:

You simply overcharged the battery. If you hook up two batteries in parallel that are not both fully charged to start with, the battery that has the higher state of charge will see a higher charging voltage than the battery that is low, and will thus swell and explode. This happened because you paralleled it with a dead or extremely discharged battery.

Kinetics are of relatively low quality, and will not tolerate as much abuse as some other batteries. Chances are, however, you would have cooked any battery in this scenario.

soo ok well let me ask you this now i have one sitting in my room at 12.98 volts and been that way for since last Friday and the sides did seem to start to have slight swelling on them is it this battery damaged as well even though the side have gone down

I use to charge my kinetik 2400's @ 15.5 daily, no less lol never had a single problem.... but I also replace my kientiks every couple months, I like to keep the charging system fresh to death!

haha.... nice suggestion my pockets aint that deep right now...

Looks like it is about 7 years old or older as well.

yea i dont know who's battery that is or was.. mine is by far no means like that.. i should have taken a picture before i sent it off.
