bad voltage drop

Recommended Posts

In my main daily driver, an 03 silverado, I am running three RF T4000s, and an RF T800.4 on triple mechman 270 alternators and 6 xs power d3100s with a SHITLOAD of wiring. 0 voltage drop. Quad is pretty overkill and I think you're following youtube a little too much, lol

Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

Lol... Actually had nothing to do with youtube more so that I don't know exactly how much power I'll end up with and would rather have to add more amps n speakers to use the alt power I'm putting out then not have enough alt power, ya know... But if everyone keeps sayin that 3 will do it there definitely isn't a point in spending the extra money... So if you're runnin 6 3100s I'll prolly need like 8 of my 2600s... Hmmm... This is gunna end up being cheaper than I planned... So one more question that never really got answered... Do you think this overkill ass 50 farad stinger cap will help me out a little short term till I get the rest of my alts n batts??? Cuz my voltage ends up down in the 10s during the more demanding times and as of right now I'm only pullin a 200a current to the 1 amp I'm running...

you have too much draw for that to work properly. I agree with the voltage mod. You would still get more current to flow and it should be easier on your ride. If there is still a hard drop, then I would use the cap. You gotta be sure to charge them right or they will suck your voltage like a vampire...that's not what you want.

Don't use the cap, that won't work at all for what you have going on. It will actually make things worse once you voltage drops and drops hard.

i dont understand why you would want to boost the voltage. i mean the voltage is dropping because the alternator cannot output enough current, thus voltage drops. if you increase voltage, alt still wont be able to output more current, thus voltage will still drop. am i not right?

Correct

I can understand you wanting voltage up cuz amps run cooler, better, produce more power if they are unregulated. Triple alt setup will work, and then build your batt bank accordingly to your demand.

yes. if you have BARELY any voltage drop, yes increasing voltage seems like a good idea. but when your volts are dropping because your alt isnt big enough, its a waste of money IMO.

Wait what did I miss something where did the OP say he wanted to regulate his voltage up on stock alt with his massive drop?
