This was said on another forum several years ago, when I was just getting into audio, take for what it is worth and do what you want....

"Be careful using welding cable. The insulation, or rubber protective shielding , may not handle the automotive environment very well. While it is very flexible and handles the transfer of power nicely, the outer insulation can degrade and create problems.

This does not happen fast. It takes years sometimes. Some of them do not handle oils very well and swell or fall apart. Others don't like heat and dry or crack.

I thought welding cable would be a good idea when I built my Truck, I was wrong and took it all out to be replaced with high quality automotive grade cable after the welding cable shorted out in a really bad place. Thank goodness there was not a fire bigger than it was."

This guy has been building drag cars and V8 4x4's and this was his view on it, I have seen similar things happen.

So because someone else said to not use it, you take it as the truth?

And I guess he hasn't seen the environment welding leads are in on a daily basis. Ask any professional welder the kind of abuse his leads go through on a daily basis.

Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

I never once said you were an idiot. However, if you want to take it to a personal level, we can go there.

And when would you ever need wire to be protected from that level of heat in an engine compartment?

i was hoping this is what you were going to say!

take a look at your statement....7 years ago!!! technology and applied sciences have changed, over and over again. the jacket is not the same as it used to be, with MANY welding cables doubling on the jacket. plus, as long as the wires are installed correctly to begin with you minimize a lot of potential damage with using welding cables. please show me a lot of accidents ACTUALLY occuring from this issue you speak of with welding cable?

i mean, even if you use audio markets wiring, and do a shitty job installing and wiring then you STILL have an issue with breaks in the line. and to say welding cable jackets dont like heat....lol.

Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

It just sounded to me you were going in that direction. You wouldn't need to be, am I missing your point?
