I ripped my system out so here's my new box

Recommended Posts

Their prices look good but one thing I was forgetting earlier is that I got a $50 gift card to Audio Express to cover new amp wires so that will be the best option for me. Thanks for the suggestion though, I may buy from them in the future.

Furthermore, I have the day off from school tomorrow which means I got some one on one time with my car. I'm putting my door panels back on after installing my speakers, but before I do I want to recover the part of the door panels that used to have upholstery on them. I have some microsuede to put on but I need some kind of foam to add body to it and prevent wrinkles. This doesn't wrap around or anything. The fabric/foam will have to be glued to the door panel so that may be important.

Still could use an answer to my previous post, but I spent some time today sawing and hammering my door speaker holes since they were a tad too small (dammit Nissan) and cutting holes in my rear dash for my speakers. Everything is done and hooked up now and it looks and sounds great! I'll be posting 20+ pics tomorrow showing it all.

Alright, here it is. The full installation of my Rockford Fosgate P1 6.5" and 5.25" speakers:

Alright, here's what I'm starting out with. Notice I've removed the door panel/speaker and whoever put the water proofer thing on did a pretty sloppy job. You can tell by the wrinkles.

img20110109135828.jpg

This is after resticking the water proofer in the correct spots. Much smoother.

img20110109135846.jpg

Here's the speaker hole. Notice the spades are already on here from my first attempt at putting the new speakers in. Along with the cut I made in the plastic because the magnet was too big.

This is after I cut the plastic off for a clean install. Notice the window track. That's going to be a pain in the ass later as I try to install the new, beefier speakers.

Just a little piece of plastic that I thought might flap from the bass.

Gone. :)

The circles I'm going to cut to put my speakers in so they fit in the door properly. Also for a little sound enhancement.

Screwed in.

Speaker installed, looks good! But unfortunately I didn't have as much clearance as I thought. So I had to try another solution. I pulled out the sawz-all.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the cutting/hammering process, but if you scroll down to where I did my second door, you can see the cuts. Here's what it looks like after a little foam tape.

I also decided to reuse my rings as extra support since I mauled my speaker holes.

Speaker back in. The foam tape (neoprene) really makes a nice seal against the metal and speaker.

Restuck the water guard and cut it appropriately.

This is the messy part of both doors. You might notice that the cuts do not go all the way around the circle. I did this to shift the speaker over more to get clearance from the window track. Yes, this door is red. It must be a replacement and the previous owner took the cheap way out for a paint job.

Mounted up real nice and tight.

Water guard restuck and cut appropriately.

Now for the rear deck. I took out my Pioneers and ripped out the previous foam tape I used. All the grey is residue. Pretend you never saw that sloppy wire job. :)

part1294692230107.jpg

Since Nissan made these holes just a hair too big for the average 5.25" speaker, I decided to mount these to the rear dash cover as it was the easiest route to go. To clear the air gap between the metal deck and deck cover, I wrapped each hole in 2 layers of foam tape to seal it up. The first layer, left side.

Both speakers in. I used the adapters for some re-enforcement against the deck cover.

Installed in the car. I'm very impressed with the audio results I got. I'm definitely satisfied with this install.

One more thing...I played at The National in Richmond with my new band Friday night. We did great! Wooh!
