so does this bypass how the voltage regulator actual works? when it starts to get hot does its lower the amperage output or does it just make it run full tilt all the time? just curious

It does not bypass the internal regulator, it simply manipulates it. Amperage output regulation will remain the same as without the module, as well the thermal rollback feature. As alternator temp increases, the charging voltage will still decrease on the same slope so as to prevent alternator and battery overheating.
