I've got 3 yellow tops and they work fine. I'm surprised no one has mentioned batcap which in my experience tops all other brands. I would rate the yellow top within the top 10 batteries to use.

Some of the top ones are in no particular order

NSB

Batcap

XS power

Kinetic

Oddesy

Powermaster

Yellow top

All of these are solid performers.

You bring up a good point here. The XS batteries sound like half battery/cap. If no other battery can discharge as fast, it has to be because it not all battery. I sure you can get the same performance running battcaps or battery/cap mix.

Had an estimate of 6400 for an alpine/clarion setup dealer said it "should" hit around 160db with the custom boxes he was going to make for me..doubtful with so much area to move but, budget is way below that :( any ideas on cheaper brands for that kind of Spl setup? really didnt want to try any Boss or soundstorm, thinking Quantum figure around $150 per speaker "$1800 total" and $1700 to power it, first actual big setup for the van.

so whats wrong with red tops compaired to the the other brands and to the yellow tops? we have a red top in every vehicle we own and they all last more then 5 years, we just end up replacing them because they should be bad by then and dont want to get stranded just in case. but we have had them in my jeep wrangler that gave it plenty of abuse with 2 10s in the back and lights you can see from space. and we had one in our rock crawler that we beat the piss out of and never had a problem with, at any angle or speed. never gave us problems.
