Tony D
I've got robot ears. Just kidding. The Clip-O-Meter looks sweet. (I was going to all it the Clip-Detector, but this being the internet, someone was bound to get the wrong idea.) I'm down for one when they come out. Is there a limit as to how big of an amp this deal will handle? Will it work on a kicker warhorse at full tilt? Funny I was going to call it the Clip Detector too, but then realized it's much more than that. It will detect any distortions to the original signal. As far as input, it will work with accuracy up to 140Vrms in, which would work out to about 20,000 Watts into 1 ohm. It won't be damaged until 200Vrms+. So sure it will handle the warhorse.... i'm wondering if the warhorse can handle it Lol, what i'm saying is I don't have any experience with the warhorse personally and I don't know how clean (or dirty) the output is. It may exceed 1.0% THD long before it nears max power. I don't know this for a fact though. Just making the point that this is a Distortion meter. Torres
so from the pics i see, its an oscope and tone generator? tone generator? then it'd have to be hooked up from the RCA inputs of the amp, yes? what about if the head unit clips? looks to me like a set o-scope that scopes a certain frequency (which is fine imo) then displays when it clips with an LED light. minus the fancy LCD screen and ability to monitor any frequency used (which is still fine imo). as long as it can tell when the amp is clipping accurately then that's all i'm concerned about. i'm not trying to see when my stuff is clipping at 5 or 10 hz...but daily frequencies which looks like this is about what this one is aimed for. i'm in for this. definitely curious about the price. i lol at the people who spend so much money on audio equipment and don't wanna spend money on something that costs less than one piece of their equipment to make sure it's set right to prevent the destruction of their equipment. not taking shots at anyone specific. most likely will be purchasing this regardless tho. looks to be a nice tool to have
Torres
It will detect any distortions to the original signal. well that answered one of my questions
Autruche
It's definitely not a tone generator too, that would be incredibly pointless, as a different head units put out different preamp voltages, making it being a tone generator would be completely useless. It seems relatively simple (in concept anyway), play a 40Hz tone for your subs and it looks for clipping, play a 1000Hz tone for your mids and it looks for clipping. Seems straightforward to me. I am interested if it will come with a disc with preloaded tones though, for teh n00bs. Edited January 4, 2011 by lAutruche Quote Need Test Tones/Sine Waves? James88215
This is great Steve! I'll get one for sure when it comes out. I've been wanting to set my gains proper, but don't want to spend so much money on an o-scope.
