CES 2011: New Stuff for Kicker (pictures).

Recommended Posts

My 12" Solo X handled between 3-3.5kw daily first from a Memphis 4kw and then from a DD Z1 (limited by electrical or it would have seen more). It doesn't surprise me that they lowered the specs (which I'm sure is just on paper) what surprises me is that it took them so long to do it. Those power rating were unrealistic to the dumbass mainstream crowd that just throw money at their audio shop. It doesn't mean they couldn't handle it. I doubt the spairs have changed at all. I loved my Solo X, I think it was one of the few mainstream companies that could actually run with the big dogs and Solo Xs sound good if you want them to. I'd take my 12X back in a heartbeat.

It's all gone!

one thing to remember is these ratings are what the coils can take, if you put this sub or any sub for that matter and put it in the wrong sized box, you will cause it to greatly exceed its mechanical limits, and destroy itself, even though the thermal limit (rms power) was no where reached. This comes into play with the box size, port volume, and what frequency you are playing. Most likely people where doing ported boxes that where way to small, and that will cause the sub to again, reach its mechanical limits far earlier then its thermal power limit, causing the subwoofer to fail. So all in all, i am sure you can throw that much power at it, if it is in the correct box size, that doesnt mean by any means that there is only one good box size, it depends on what you do and play on your subs, but these prefab boxs are horrible for these high power subs, they just do not have the required volume that is needed

4 month old thread bump!

What I want to know is,

Why did they discontinue the L5's? Is it b/c they were SO CLOSE to the L7's?
