HOW TO: Wire strapped amps

AMI CUSTOMS

Recommended Posts

The light flickering is not a bad thing just be aware you are in a soft clip area. Always verify with o scope, those indicators can be off in the reading. And some songs may have clipped notes in them this could be why you seen the light come in sometimes and others it hasn't.

Always wondered why the bass "boost" would stop at a certain point on the knobs ive used, (sundown and aq) now I know it wont go past the gain setting on the amp. Thanks.

Also, I know clipping in general is bad, but it seems those aq clipping indicators go off quiet easily. If it flickers, is that necessarily bad? I know you dont want full light on, but sometimes when I had my old 1200 it would just barely flicker sometimes.

ok this may be a dumb question.... but can you strap diff size amps? ie. a aq2200 and a aq3500?

i assume that you cannot or that its not recommended.....want to be the genie pig for this one?

How do the Japanese feel about bass?

You know that since 03/11/11

Progene? I just saw that stuff on CNN. They said it makes your junk shrink all up. lol.

im pretty sure the op wont even notice if it gets even smaller.

so say i strap to aq 2200's together. i would set the gains on MASTER with dd-1 of cours ;) then use the knob with dd-1 to find the max i can have the knob too? and how do you know what ohm load your amps are at when they are strapped and when you add speakers?

Plug the knob in with the gain on the master amp all the way down... Turn the bass knob all the way up (the max) then use the dd-1 to set your gain on master amp to we're there is a soft clip on your bass knob (the clip light is flicking on & off)

To tell the ohm load of your amps when strapped READ THE BOOK THAT CAME WITH THE AMP OR THE BOX IT CAME IN. If you don't have those look on the web site for that amp company... Once you know what ohm load the amps are when strapped you should find the brand & how many of that sub you want in your build... After some math the total ohms for all your subs should match the amp ohms but the total wattage (watts) for all the subs should be low then the total for the strapped amps. IMO I like to leave 500-1000 watt head room on the amps just to be safe... Say total watts for amps is 10,000 I would want my subs total to be 8-9000 watts

Can you? Yes it will work, should you? No, you are running a large difference in output thru the power supply to get your final output from the combined pair. So don't do it and will likely void any warranty at the same time.

Glad this video was helpful to many!!! Thanks
