I'm building a new box and have rounded over all the corners, i'm not at the painting part of the process. I have already laid down 3 coats of primer, lightly sanding the box between each coat. I've only used one can of paint so far but I can already see the edges of the wood, especially the roundovers, are going to give me fits. I didn't put a heavy coat of paint on the box but did pay extra attention to the roundovers and other edges, laying it on heavy, but it's like they just soak up all that paint and I get grey edges instead of black:angry:

So those of you who paint your boxes, what's the secret to getting the edges/roundovers to look as good as the rest of the box?

This is what i'm talking about

Resin the box works. Or I used latex based primer, usually killz. And it soaks up the first coat but second n third have no issues. Then paint the bish and your good.

I'm not expecting to get full coverage from one can of paint, I know I gotta build it up go get that even finish.....but that's not the issue here, it's the edges/roundovers that even though I soaked them with at least 3 coats, they aren't any closer to being black than after the first coat. I'm trying something to see if it works and so far so good, just wanted to see what you guys had to say about the issue. I'll post my results later tonight.

i use a roller to paint them. it's thicker and doesn't soak in near as much. usually just a couple coats will do ya

That's a good idea too, didn't think about that one.

Here's the preliminary results from my test:

I painted the whole top edge, one side I applied something, the other side I didn't, painted over both with one pass from the spray can. Anyone care to guess what I applied?

For my edges I push wood filler into the raw edge and then give a light sand. Then a coat of primer and a coat or paint.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)
