Hey guys sorry for the lack of updates i have been very busy with school lately

I went to Clay's (The A-Team)show on the weekend and participated in the db drag event. Unfortunately because of the design of my box the pressure loads towards the back behind the driver not on the windshield near the meter. As a result i only did a 118.8 for db drag, After i do some more tweaking of the system hopefully i will be able to at least do a 119.9 consistently.

I am not sure if anyone got a video of my second run but i got it working and did a 118.8. During the run the screen showed no reading because i was too quiet but apparently i did a 118.8

I probably wont get this build finished until after school in 4 weeks. I did pick up a ED Nine.2 for the components so ill probably get that in pretty soon.

yea it weighs it down a bit but its very sturdy. im scared of that too and will be dealing with that issue asap

yea it is definatly different having the bass coming from the dash, it is actually pretty incredible how loud it is

it looks like its leaning, maybe its the angle??

i do believe it is leaning a bit but i think it may have happened when i sucked the box into the firewall after tightening the bolt. Regardless it is very secure and isnt going anywhere

put sum paper on the dash so we can see that the port works .

Don't try to croos the border with that box...Looks like illegal BASS....BOOOOOM. If you get pulled over you just have to bump the bass to get the registration and insurance out!

oh, and it appears that the lvl3 had weighed the glove box down quite a bit.... any plans for reinforcing it and supporting it a little bit better?

I am going to try and secure it from the top more. It is actually very secure, i cant even move the box if i try. The bolt through the firewall is very sturdy. i will probably just build a trim panel to cover all the gaps

Hey guys sorry about the lack of updates on the sub box the past few days. I received my new speakers this morning, by being rudely woken up by my wonderful and amazing girlfriend who got up and answered the door when purilator man dropped them off. They are Polk Audio MM5251 (5 1/4"). They are marine rated which i need because i sunk my truck in 4 feet of water last summer and basically destroyed my previous components haha. For the price they sound very clean and they should really shine when i get some power to them (will be a ED Nine.2) After doing that i wired up the sub and amp. All i can say about the sub is wow am i surprised. the only bad thing is there is a reasonable amount of port noise because of the speaker grill but that can be taken care of. It sounds very good and is way louder then i ever expected. It sounds much better then the level 5 of course, also for some reason its almost as loud (to the ear)

I didn't want to finish the box with paint/carpet until i heard the sub just incase i had to do more glassing. but it seems everything is okay so i will start finishing it when i get the time.

Cut the hole in the door panel..

After doing the doors i ran new speaker wire. Its 4c14awg (4 conductor , 14 gauge) used in high voltage substations as control cable. I have a bunch of it from my old job, its nice stuff. each conductor is separately numbered which will make it easy to install the speakers. i am going to run it to the back seat where i will install the crossovers and amp

well here is the work i got done yesterday. I finished fiber glassing the entire box. all that's left now is to make it look good, i should be able to get most of that done today.

I also have done some work on my doors. Basically i had the speakers, 5 1/4" Bassworks, in a small sealed kick panel and i was pretty disappointed with the mid bass. So the solution is to cut a hole in the back of the speaker pod and door panel to allow the air to pass into the door itself. I then sealed the holes off using pieces of 1/4" PVC board (the stuff used for hockey boards) and sealed off the holes. Then i covered the doors in flashing tape, which is a cheap substitute for sound deadener. I tried to to this job on a limited budget which is why i used the flashing tape and not actual deadener. Its basically just self adhesive tape which is made out of asphalt,rubber and is actually pretty close in thickness to dynamat. Its used for roofing and it only cost $30 for both doors and i have a ton left over

Mad props for the unique build. I hope you like how it sounds so all that effort pays off in the end. I agree the plexi window would be hilarious or perhaps put a photo of a normal open glove box on the so its like an old school wylie coyote cartoon

Yea I really hope it sounds good and this wasnt a waste of time/money. i suppose even if it doesn't sound good at least i tried and got some more experience doing fiberglass so i cant really say it wasted. unfortunately i decided against the plexi as i didn't want to dump a whole lot more money in this thing. Plus the inside wasn't that pretty and wouldn't have looked very good haha

this is a wild install, cant wait to see how it all turns out

So heres all i got finished today..

The entire thing is now glassed and the port is secure and sealed in place. The only part left is to do the door. Im not sure if I am going to do the plexi window. i most likely will not. Anyhow, i will be gone on a trip for two days so don't expect updates until at least Sunday. Maybe i will feel ambitious enough to do the plexi by then.

The plan from here on out is to fill in the grill channels with kitty hair and filler. After i get the entire glove box door and speaker (now port exit) sanded and primed it will all be painted the same color as my kicks and stereo bezel as you can see below. Everything below the bottom of the glove box door will be wrapped in Grey box carpet

nicce, is somebody going to tell me what this RHS is? haha yea worst case is i just try sealed, then a ported w8, then a sealed 8 etc. ill eventually find a sub that works well. If DC made an 8 i could use two of those...im just sayin...

Yea it should be pretty funny when people ask where the port is. then ill play the sub and they will be like damn turn the AC off haha.

Thanks , i love my truck. it has 335000 kms and is running strong. i just got some new 33" mud terrain KM's on it, ill have to take some nice pics when it warms up and i can wash it.

hah thanks dude. my calculations aren't 100% accurate because of how difficult it was to find the total volume however it should be tuned right around 38hz. its a little higher then i wanted but i couldn't get any more port length. it should meter a little better as a result.

im guessing it will meter fairly good w/ the port <1ft from the TL .

yea im hoping it will do mid/high 130's so i can do 129.9 bass race at least. we can all dream

fucking nice way to get a ported box for a 12 with out killing the back seat. what are you going to do to protect that pretty sub?

yea i had two goals for this build, first is to maintain my cab space and second is to keep everything as hidden as possible. I will be getting a grill of somesort, probably one of the alpine ones. or i might just build one myself out of some mesh material. whatever i use i want it too be very fine to keep all the mud and such out of there

Cool to see you are actually getting this done for my show. Once the RHS is in we can do the inside of that enclosure with it and stiffen it up real good.

as for keeping the glove box functional... here are my options. At the moment this box is right around 1.5 cubes, which of course is too large for the lvl 3 sealed. however if i were to keep the functionality of the glove box it would probably cut the volume down around 1 cube or so. However, i do not want to go sealed. option b is to go ported of course. 1.5 cubes is perfect for ported however in order to do so i only really have one option. i must run the port as such in the photo below. There is sufficient room behind the pole vent and 4" between the face of the flare and the box wall. It may look a little silly but this is about all i can do with what i have. But to answer your question, regardless what it will look like a stock glove box from the outside, its functionality is unknown yet.

As you can see it will vent directly our the stock speaker grill, which happens to be exactly 4" wide. of course the optimal situation would be to downfire the port on the same plane as the sub but unfortunately i do not believe it will work.

Ideas? Opinions?

i only have two screws holding it to the floor at the moment. i will probably add some kind of strap for even more security. i will also be adding a ed nine.2 ontop of this am when i get my new speakers. It will be tight, might need a little fan in there for the summer

Figured a way to harness the box to the truck

removed the stock grommet in the firewall

marked and drilled a hole then inserted a 1/2" bolt with washer

The one bolt through the firewall holds the box in nice and secure however it still needs some vertical support. Also needs the vertical support to help level it out so the glove box looks proper. I will make some sort of bracket tomorrow to help support it. Will be in the red circled part of the picture below.

apparently the last bit of resin i used was a little old. it was only about a quarter of a quart that i used. its a nice money color haha

here is what i have got done today so far..

first problem which i had anticipated

i decided it would be easier to relocate my tweeters to the a pillar and i also save myself from losing a lot of volume in that corner. the imagining from those speakers is just how i like it but i cant imagine the a pillar being too different.

i will mount the tweeter on the little black triangle, the mirror mount, at a later date.

i am 6'3" and can comfortably sit without bending my legs in. obviously you would not want to take this truck on a road trip with a passenger

This will be my build log as i attempt to put a 12" DC Audio Level 3 into my dash in the stock glove box location. It should be interesting...

The vehicle..

I used to run a DC audio Level 5 and a stetsom 2k in my truck. Unfortunately it required a much larger box then i would like in my truck and it was not practical as i use my truck for 4wheeling quite often. So i decided to downsize and keep as much usable cab space as possible.

Naturally the next best place for a sub in my truck is the glove box so that's what i set out to do..

That,s basically where i am at right now. The original Plan was to do 1 cf sealed if i could fit that however as it stands right now Im at around .85 cubes for just the back part of the box. After adding the front i will possibly be over 1.5 cubes. if that is the case i will be porting this using a 4" aeroport.
