Are there any advantages to thicker MDF or is it just for box strength?

currently i'm looking at a fairly low power system. i'm looking to get 2 12's of the new low cost sundowns and maybe 800 watt or so amp. I've never had that loud of a system so i'm not sure what to expect. think ill need thicker than 3/4 mdf?
