  1. Cool. I have a Hifonics Brutus 1600 watt. I did have it wired up to 1 ohm on 4 4 ohm 12s, but then got 4 more. So now it is running at 2 ohms. The subs only get maybe 100 watts each instead of the 400 before. My point is... it is still loud as hell, but you can tell when the subs fall on their face from lack of power. It will work well with the amp at 2 ohms, but if you can get another amp easy, def. go with that to run them both at 1 ohm. That's what I am looking to do now.

Make sure you have the juice. Maybe another battery is in the works? :)

  2. Why not try it at 2 ohms for a while?

Like basshead said, get a multimeter and check to see what your final impedance is. It might be closer to 1 ohm than it will be to 2. Most 4 ohm subs I have meter at 3.4 ohms or so, but I think that is because when you play them with heat and impedance rise, it goes up closer to or above the rated 4 ohms.

Maybe test it at .5 ohms if you feel lucky. Sure, you will get impedance rise, but i would think they figure on that when they build the subs and amp. I wouldn't go that way personally.

  3. this is not something for you to bear on your conscious . You didn't know the man, and you thought he was just intoxicated. I know you keep trying to rationalize the "what ifs" but man , you just have to let go. He should have never even approached you and your friends and cause you to have to question your sanity and possible guilt. this is just not fair for you and your friends. I don't really have any wisdom to dispense in a literal manner here, but worrying about something like this can ruin your day every day for years to come if you ponder this for too long. You just were in the wrong place and certainly at the wrong time, and the guy was obviously fucked up and trying to reach out , and he was lost. He was gone before you guys ever even pulled up, but you didn't know. There was nothing you could have done to change the events that unfolded. he didn't just "decide" to go shoot himself just to ruin your night. He was gonna do it either way, and he was drunk, therefore hard to take as anything but humorous and pitiful. He clearly got himself shit faced cause he couldn't do it sober, and in his altered state, saw you pull up and wanted to do what most people do when they are high or drunk: socialize. shoot the shit ( no pun intended ) , chat with the neighbors. His conversation was just a little bizarre , but not completely psychotic or believably suicidal . He was just trying to get some attention, and he didn't get it, so he went back home and did what he planned to do either way. This shit is not for you to bare on your soul. You have to put this behind you. You did all you could. No action on your part would have changed anything, maybe delay it for a few brief moments, but the end result would still be what it is right now...

    Well said.

  4. Hate that you went through that bro. You never really can tell when stuff like that is going on- especially when people are strung out.

It really sounds to me that you did all that you could do by calling 911 as soon as he said that stuff. It is easy looking back after it is all done and say I should have or what if- but that's just the thing, you didn't know until it was too late. He was the only one who could answer for his own life- he didn't want to be helped.

I would pray on it, but in my eyes- you did all you could.

  5. I have no real apples for apples comparo for this, but any time I have gone from 2 subs to 4 with even half the wattage to the 4, the 4 kill the 2.

You can't cheat the law of physics. Basically, I think you need to multiply cone area by the linear movement of the sub. The more wattage, the further the travel and more control- but you have less cone area. But that is prob. over simplifying things.

If you have a huge car, then go with the Cone area. If you don't have room- then go with more powa' to one. But know, it is a different kind of sound- just my $.02

  6. Is it midbass you are after? I have a 9312 and also an Alpine deck and the Jensen deck has no real power to it at all. It needs an external amp and eq. Now the Alpine deck running the same speakers has more internal power and cleaner signal, just not as many features as the 9312.

Seems to me you would need an external eq and some good midbass speakers.

That's my vote! Keep whatever sub setup you have now but get some very efficient mids and put in your doors or kick pannels- sealed of course. They need not be super high wattage woofers either. I would vote for low wattage, low mass on the cone, and power them with an amp rated at or above their RMS to get the "headroom" as stated before. That would give you a cleaner sound.

EQs are always good too. I have a 15 band eq on my highs and one on the subs. I used it at first just because I had an extra one and it is also a line driver- but I found that you can really tweak the sound of your subs and get a punchier sound without loosing your uber low end if you take the time with the eq.

  7. My stereo vehicle (Astro) isn't my daily driver- so it seems that I check everything about 3 times for every one time that I drive it. I will check it and do adjustments to make sure everything is cool before I drive it, then a quick once over right before I drive it, and then again after I drive it.

It isn't really like overkill in my mind- especially considering it only gets driven maybe every other week.

My biggest fear is power wires shifting or shorting out. 4 runs of 4awg and all the big 3 stuff in 0awg- that is pretty big wire. Even with everything fused 6 ways from Sunday, I am constantly looking for something that could compromise the saftey of the system and vehicle.

    Good question!

  8. Ease off the guy about what he paid to have it detailed. He took it to a really high end shop that does detail work on show cars. If that is where he wanted to go, then so be it. Besides, it is his cash- let him spend it the way he wants to. I wash my own cars but I think it is insane that some people pay what they do on power wire. I don't make fun of you because I buy welding cable. Does it do the same job- yes. Is it as good- no. The difference between good and great is that little bit, and that is what he paid for and got. :clapping:

About your question... it has been answered in some of the above posts. Use a cleaner for removing goo or stickers and then get some factory color matched touch-up paint at Autozone or where have you. They should both be down the same isle.

  9. If you really wanted too, Im sure you could, but it wouldnt be the best ground by looking at the plenum.

Id try to shoot for a better ground, something that bolts to the block like a alternator bracket or something of that nature.

Second. I don't know how good that ground is going through the aluminum intake and with the gaskets and bla bla bla.

There has got to be a better spot like audiofanatics said that is closer to the alt.

  10. So the driver's and passenger's side move independantly of one another? If so, why not scoot up the passenger's side like you said and see if you can make enough room for both subs there- then use the driver's side for the port... space permitting of course.

But my vote: if you can't make the box optimum for two, then go with a big ported for the one. SQ and SPL will prob. be better. My $.02
