What am I doing wrong?
Trying to measure headunit thru an amp,
Mono amp: MRV500
So track 1, I do the steps but the 40hz doesnt pop up on max volume, Only Thing I see is the distortion light pop up???
SAME With track 2, the 1khz or 40hz, doesnt pop up
HOWEVER: I notice when I turn the gain up on the amp (testing to see) when measuring the headunit, The 40hz does pop up?
Am i doing something wrong because going through the book steps, the only light that pops up is the distortion unless I turn the gain up then it turns on.
I stick the red on the positive wire and the black on the amp ground wire
So what I did was just ignore it and set my gains on for the subwoofer using Track 5 (40hz -10db), So the 40hz or 1khz the light didnt pop up from the 1st step of measuring the headunit, is this Okay to set my gains like this? I even turned the amp bass boost almsot all the way up bcus it wasnt hitting as hard
The distortion light pops up on regular music so I don't know what I'm doing wrong

you’d have to take the panels off youtube has tons of tutorials just get a pair of panel tools you’ll be set
the thing is the headunit doesnt display the volume level, so I won't know what volume level it distorts at, any suggestions?

I don't use bass boost on my amplifiers, but I have a remote bass-knob which I turn all the way up, then tune it. It says clearer how you can do it in the manual
Edit: I also have everything else flat, on my headunit for example.
thing is I have 2 mono amps so I would need 2 bass boost knobs sadly

btw when tuning, do you set your bass boost on the amp all the way up (or preference) or leave evrything flat ?

Sorry you didn’t specify if you had a 4 channel. One option is to disconnect the speakers at the speaker terminals and I think that is one of the only ways to do it with a oem Headunit. The tweeters likely have a crossover so you could just unhook the mids and use the 40hz test tone to tune the amp.
How are you getting your signal for the sub amp? Rear speakers ? Line output converter ? High level inputs ?
I use a line output converter, so only thing connected to the amp is the sub and rca, so if i were to disconnect the speakers I would have to do it by opening the panels apart right?

Ahh I see. I don't know anything about stock headunits really. But I have a DD-1 my self, and to your second question; In my experience at least (aftermarket Pioneer headunit) the volume levels are different between AUX and Bluetooth for example (by a lot actually). I don't know why that is though.
It's just a bit difficult to use it,. For one, factory speakers so it plays the tracks and the sound is annoying when I try to find where it distorts at. the only thing connect to the amp is just the sub wires along with Rca for the line out converter

What headunit do you have?
Factory headunit with the idrive (navigation screen)

Car: BMW 3 series
2 mono Amps: alpine mrv500, 2 subwoofers
Problem: Theres no volume display on the headunit, How do I properly set my gains without knowing the volume level it distorts at? explain in details please.
Question #2, I Listen to music on the Aux cord so do I need to play the DD-1 playlist off my phone rather than the Cd?

When you use the dd1 you should unhook all speaker outputs from the amps regardless if it’s sub or a 4 channel for mids and highs

Okay so set gains with max volume?, it distorts close to max volume and when I put the black and red harness to the speaker output in the amp, the 40hz light domt pop up for track one or 2

hello I recently purchased a distortion detector and the problem is I have a BMW 3 series and it does not show the volume level on the screen
●How would I use this properly without knowing the acutal volume level that its at?

Theres only a sub connected to the amp, which I do unhook, it's just the factory speakers that play the noise from the track which i don't know how to unhook unless i open the door panels and do it like that,
But my main question is, how do I even set gains properly if my headunit does not show the volume level ?

hello I recently purchased a distortion detector and the problem is I have a BMW 3 series and it does not show the volume level, How would I use this properly without knowing the acutally volume level that its at?, it's the navigation headunit type,
Plus if I remove the subwoofer speaker wire from the amp, the door speakers still play loud from the Cd tracks is that normal ? becuase in YouTube videos i see online i dont hear any sound while they set their gains.
2 Amps: Mrv500, do I set the LP filter back to 80hrz after its tuned?

the filter (bass, treble,) on HU is set to flat like on the middle bar, and the LP filter is set to max, so really I'm doing what the book says but the 40hz or 1khz doesnt pop up unless the gain on the amp is turned up
