  1. IB means there is no box, the sub is attatched to a baffle, and thats about it

lots of cars come from the factory with an IB 8 or 10 in the parcel shelf in the back

if you want to do it in your car, use an IB capable sub (fi makes some, and i'm sure theres some others kicking about, they kinda went the way of the cassette player in car audio though), mount it in a baffle facing forward, and do your best to seal the "front" from the "back"...cut the mdf to basically seal around the trunk and fill the gaps with caulk/sprayfoam/fiberglass

dont port it, that defeats the entire purpose

as far as a build log, i know there is a mustang with all rockford gear and an IB setup somewhere on here, or you can look in any car audio mag from before 1993 or so ;)

basically boxes meant less work installing, higher outputs, and higher power handling. ib has some advantages, but i'm not too sure how many people want to trade those over a traditional route

  2. can we make a forum rule that like outlaws "how many deebeez can i hit with xxx setup?" threads/posts

noone knows, build it and try, anything is possible is ALWAYS the answer, we can always guess, but then again, so can you and can keep the recent topics section open for cooler stuff than a description of an idea and a guess of what it can do.

http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?act=boardrules i mean, rule 7 is "no is xxx louder than yyy" on the same premise...

  3. just trying to help ;)

most companies either diode isolate or internally fuse somehow the rca ground so that the amp cant pull ground through the h/u if the amp's ground isnt sufficient (which CAN happen if the amp's rca's are grounded to the chassis, and its being driven hard on too small a gauge of wire...like so many people do)

what i showed bypasses that, and in turn provides a lower noise environment, just make sure everything else is up to spec and you shouldnt have a worry.

  4. a lot of h/u's, the outer rca isnt properly grounded to the radio chassis, so grounding the radio can cause more interference

try grounding the rca to the h/u chassis, like this :

    strip alot of wire

    IMG00224.jpg

wrap it around the rca (mine are pigtailed, if yours arent, this is going to happen on the back of the deck, but you get the idea...use enough to go around the rca and leave enough for you to twist it on tight)

    IMG00225.jpg

ground the rca to the chassis

    IMG00223.jpg

now keep in mind, if you have an eq, you may have to ground all of your rca outputs to the chassis, and all the rca outputs of the eq to its chassis, and use a common ground for the two, and possibly link eq chassis to h/u chassis

getting rid of noise can be a bitch, especially if its "source" noise like yours appears to be, not noise picked up in-line

  5. well you, g-fresh, are a very unique exception

    rca+power line almost guarantees noise

rca+speaker line is basically the same, but in an rca, the shielding makes almost an antenna, and it is then multiplied 10-100 times by the amplifier (depending on how powerful it is)

so basically speaker line doesnt pick it up as well, and if it does it makes a much less noticeable noise. but if possible, try and keep them as separate as possible. If its not possible, you should be ok, but it ~MAY~ have some sort of noise. key word is may...

  6. this is gonna sound stupid but:

smooth peanut butter...smoosh some on, use your (clean, like wash before hand) finger to swirl around in circles around the disk, like 3 times (itty bitty overlapping circles, until you've been around the whole cd 3 times).press hard and dont be a wuss, put it on the counter so you dont bend and break it. Then run it under a tap and use your finger to get it all off. finish with a microfiber cloth or soft towel. Then take a (new, as in unused and undirtied) hi-liter and basically color it in, in small overlapping circles (for both of these think of waxing your car...peanut butter is like a cutting compound and the highliter is like a wax, use the same motion and everything)

then wash off and clean with a nice soft cloth. if that doesnt work, its too messed up. I've brought a lot back from the death this way. and somehow it works better than even like mother's plastic polish.

  7. the sad thing is that theres hundreds of people that read that and bought a 13w7 and a 1000/1 thinking its the greatest thing ever.

a lot of people only know jl, alpine, pioneer, and kicker. they assume kicker is loud but poop, jl is the utmost in quality, alpine has the best radios without question, and pioneer is for people who cant afford the others.

but whatever. thats why they invented internet stereo stores and bestbuy.

  8. good looks on posting the vids rob

and thanks for whoopin my ass with 2 10's and less power, lol. But then again noone else was bumpin in the 20's

i wish i could make it to that rochester show : / i was planning on going but now i have to take care of health needs instead.

its early in the morning so I forgot who asked, but the 3-18 build is in my sig. on the first post is a link to the dc build, the first few pages are my doors/kicker build

and incase no one noticed, dc=trophies, lol. props to rusty on making some killer groundpounder subs, and some crazy spl subs. i cant wait to see what the DC TH's do.

  9. " A high level of THC could create a synergistic effect and really have a negative impact medically on somebody,"

-yea, you'd eat the rest of the brownies and laugh at everything

and lol at the student passing out, takin a weed nap at school. I legit took a nap in the middle of the day for like 4 hours last time i tried one.

doesnt poison have to be capable of harming or killing someone? its easier to get someone to drink a lethal amount of water than eat/smoke a lethal amount of weed.

  10. gamestop guys are pricks

they wont price match, they sell buy-back games at double to quadruple what they pay you for it, and now they wont let you buy things online unless you talk to some retarded ass girl named jeanette who wants to verify that you REALLY did want the thing you ordered, but cant verify it personally and tells you to call some other number.

and online is independent from the stores, but most places will honor online prices if you make a stink.

  11. i bought 6 sheets of mdf for my car, i'd guess 4.5 to 5 made it in...at 90lbs apiece thats already over 400

gallon of resin, few yards of glass, gallon of glue, some 2x4's, ...i guess call it 50lbs

    3 18's...theyre what 70lbs apiece? call it 200....thats 650

    but, 3 huge batts at 80+ apiece-250

    4 big amps at 10lbs apice-40

so thats 940, not counting sprayfoam, wires (considerable, prob nearing 100 lbs, 100+ft of 0, dozen fuses and blocks, 60ft of 8g, 100ft of 12g, 3 sets of 20ft rca's, 3ft worth of busbars with 2 dozen 3/8in bolts)...and then theres all that dumb stuff like dynamat, pretty panels, batt/amp racks

honestly its probably over half a ton I added to my car....and its not even a full wall

the box and subs, 500-600+ is right, but keep in mind all that other shit you put in there
