from what people have told me, they are more comparable to the btl not the bl.
-
If the room isn't super big, and you are willing to sacrifice some audio quality, go with the Z-5500. It isn't bad sounding, but it won't compete with a good receiver and decent bookshelves.
The one thing I wouldn't get is the home theater in a box. Everyone I've talked to that knows home theater doesn't really like them. The main reason being if a speaker goes, they normally use proprietary connectors, so you can toss the whole bundle in the trash and get a new one.
x2...it sounds great for what it is, but by no means does it compare to a true home theater setup.

i got the z-5500 setup for my tv/computer/360 in my room.
it gets the job done and sounds good doin it. its plenty loud for your average size bedroom and its worth the money IMO.

im in naperville...about 30 minutes from the city
-
as i said before, i'm not gonna do that setup anymore. 10 roadmaster mids and 5 durabrand tweeters but i'll probably get 2 8" subs and hook those up too. i like my music loud. REALLY loud. lol.
yeah i realize that....still not practical though.
do what Slinky said....the z-5500 setup sounds very nice, and is VERY loud.
-
x2...my logitech speakers sound amazing on my computer and i only got the 2.1 for right now...that 10 inch sub really hits. i dont see the need for all that just for the computer.

camaro or challenger for the price and what you get outta the car would be my choice.
my dads got a challenger and that thing is a beast of a car.

google it...see what comes up.

bl's....
-
you will have some gains in spl with the bl's...noticeable? maybe, maybe not but i can personally tell the difference in sound between the q's and bl's.
i say bl's are worth the extra cash, they still sound great on music.

doesnt matter really. it was still the point he was trying to make
okay well thats a bad example to try and help out...because nobody in their right mind would put a 12" btl in a 6 cu/ft enclosure.
-
if you got a 12" btl in a 6 cube box with 2500 RMS im pretty sure youll smell coils and read way up high or nothing on the DMM on the ohm setting especially if you are tuned pretty low ... i.e 28 - 29 hz..
so i totally agree with the last sentence of his post.
also, if kicker recommends 4 cubes then why not do 4 cubes @ 40 hz. tuning will play a factor or how much power they'll take in that 4.5 cube box or whatever as well.
okay but who would put a 12" BTl in a 6 cub box? nobody.
and i realize that the size of the box will determine how it takes to power, but im saying that that it doesnt always make as big of a difference as some people make it out to seem.
-
Well, I'm sure I can do some prorating here. If a 1 cu/ft box means it can handle the max of 400w RMS and a 4.6 cu/ft only should be ran @ 300...
yes but no...thats not always true.
-
a sealed box gives the subs more control and limits excursion which increases power handling. a larger ported box will give more output with less watts because the speaker is allowed to move. but just be careful and bump responsibly
what he said
-
hes talking about the title, box affects wattage. A large box allows the sub to move easier, therefore on the same amount of wattage as in a small box the sub literally can and will have more excursion therefore possibly reaching its mechanical limits depending on the amount of power the subs can handle and what you're running to them. I think i am correct on this, let me know if im not guys, a ported box in general has less sub control over a sealed box in the first place. So yes if your box is too big and you run the manufacturer rated RMS to your subs they could possibly shit out on you.
but the box doesnt affect the wattage....the wattage the subs will be getting would determine how big/small you should make your box(ported) i have no clue about sealed.
and i dont agree with your last sentence at all really....say i get a a Fi BTL 12 running 2500 rms in a 3.0 cubic foot box, they would take a shit on me in that box? i dont think so...but hey
-
Does this mean I should go sealed?actually, to answer the question in the title, its yes, not no.
this is the only question i see in the o.p..... i dont see why he should go sealed?
what makes you say that?
