And it's officially not the RCA's. I just looped the low level inputs through the low level output back into my computer, recorded it, and it's fine.

Someone told me there might be a short in the amp. Could this be true?

Scratch that, I have officially isolated the problem as the amplifier. The woofer worked fine when I plugged it into another receiver, and the amplifier cannot power another speaker that I tried. What can I do? Is there some place where I can get my amp repaired?

And would pictures of the leads help?

Ok, fellas, it's back. And this time stripping new wire did not fix it. Perhaps it is a problem with the tinsel leads. But how do I go about fixing those?

Yessss, I got it working again.
I just had to strip some more wire off, I guess a few strands had fallen out.

Alright, I believe it is not the RCA's. I just hooked up the low level outputs to the other receiver and the signal is fine. What could it be then?

Well it can't be the wires because I already tried two sets. Is it something wrong with the connectors on the amplifier?

That's correct. The problem started a few days ago, it started only being able to make that sound and I was able to fix it by jiggling the RCA's. That doesn't fix it anymore.

Also I'm not even using tinsel lead, the sub itself came in a box, so I'm just using stripped wire coming out of the amplifier and running it into the screw clamps (or whatever you call them).

Sorry I forgot to say, the sub itself is fine, I was able to run it off another receiver.

Hi guys, I made a video about my problem.
It'll only make noise, which is horrible at that, after you turn the gain up high enough.
Setup:
Subwoofer - JL Audio 10", 150 watt RMS
Amplifier - Dayton 240 watt, 4 ohms stable
Source - MacBook Pro, 3.5 mm stereo jack to RCA plugs
Situation:
The subwoofer intermittently started making that noise a few days ago, now it can do nothing but that. I have already isolated the problem as the RCA connectors (not the cables because I already tried two sets), or the amplifier.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Flow - Green is clipped on the high frequencies, but it definitely will not damage your subs as it is not clipped at all on the low frequencies.
Here it is with a 150 hz low pass, 24 dB drop-off.
Same story with the Soulja Boy, it's clipped on the highs but not on the lows. Same low pass applied here. (It clips in two spots, but obviously not as bad)

What do you mean pulsing in and out? Do you mean not moving a lot, or moving fully but just very slowly?

But can the sub amp above indeed power full range speaks? There seem to be plugs for it.

Nice. Also can this amp power non-subwoofer speakers (i.e. full range?). It seems to say something about that in the manual but I'm not completely sure.

Also I don't want a plate amp because I don't want to have to solder all the wires together.

Yeah but I'm not looking to waste a bunch of money lol. If worst comes to worst I can just run it on 75 watts. I found an amp that's 4 ohms stable with an LFP, but only 75 watts per channel. Bridged minimum is 8 ohms.

Yeah, but the sub (which is a car sub), might be going into my car soon. Besides I got a good deal on it.

I don't have anything yet, because I want to be able to find the right thing. I've been searching for 3 days and cannot find a 4 ohms stable amp with an LFP. There is one that is 75 watts, but that's just not enough for me.

It's a Dayton 240 watt amp, purchased for $109. Not worth repairing I'm guessing? Maybe I could take this opportunity to disassemble everything and put the sub in a box or something. What are some better amp brands; obviously this one isn't good because when I ran it, it would be for only like 15 minutes at a time at 3/4 gain.
