  1. so... just curious.. whats the safest for daily driver voltage ? and i have a 12v battery.

and how does this compare to the XS VCM ?

The manufacturer of your 12 volt battery will have a maximum recomended charging spec, but as a general rule of thumb:

14.9 volts for AGM 12 volt battery

    15.2 volts for flooded battery.

There are also other factors to consider, such as amperage and the physical temperature of the battery. The hotter the temp of the battery, the lower the charging voltage should be to prevent gassing. Also, you can charge at slightly higher voltage levels if you can only put a few amps into each battery.

For example: If you are running a stock 105 amp alternator on 5 big batteries, you can get away with a little more voltage because you can only put in 20 amps max per battery, and the overall heat put into each battery will be less.

interesting... and how does this compare to the XS VCM ? besides being $30 cheaper :D

  2. You should have two pipes from the manifold back that merge together at the catalytic converter and one out into the muffler. You can cut the converter out and run true duals with two new cats and two separate mufflers which will give you the best sound imo. And 4.3 is v6 5.0 or 5.7 in v8.

    yeah broskeeee...

    straight from wikipedia

    L99 (4.3L)

A 263 in3 (4.3 L) was based on a 305 in3 with updated block architecture to be Generation II and a reduced 3 inches (76 mm) stroke. It was designated the L99, and was introduced in 1994 for the Chevrolet Caprice. It was externally identical to the LT1, but the bore was 3.736 inches (94.9 mm) and the stroke to 3 inches (76 mm) giving it a displacement of 263 in3. The pistons used in the L99 were the same as the ones used in the Vortec 5000, but 5.94 inches (151 mm) connecting rods were used to compensate for the shorter stroke.

Like the LT1, it features sequential fuel injection, reverse-flow cooling, and an optical ignition pickup. Output is 200 hp (150 kW) and 245 lb·ft (332 N·m). Due to its smaller displacement, it provides better fuel economy than the 5.7 L LT1, but at reduced horsepower & torque levels.

its okay.. i've been wrong before..

  3. anyone ever done it ? i currently drive a L99 "v8 4.3L" auto and wanna put a 6 speed manual in it. OVERALL how hard is it ? i don't wanna do it all myself but i have some mechanic friends that might be able to do it. "the reason i asked is because i don't want to THEM to tackle it if i know they cannot do it"

and also which transmission do i need ? i know i'll need a csb bell housing for it but other than that can i use any 6 speed transmission ? like from a lt1 camero or vette ?

anyway.. this is a big dream of mine and just wanna do if i'm wasting my time trying to do it myself and save some $$$ or should i just take it to a pro.

  4. Does it shake when you idle or give it gas? If so I'd say fouled plug, best to do a tune up at 100k anyways if it's never had one. Just my .02 :good: good luck and hope it gets fixed :drinks:

yeah... it almost stalls "sometimes does but rarely"... someone thing it could be low idle ? my girl thinks it is.. OH and she's totally not a certified mechanic or anything like that.

and i'm getting a tune up for it... i read its due at 100k and i've had it since 60,xxx and haven't done it yet.

  5. Well an update.....

Tried the catalytic converter trick... and it sorta worked !! I only had limited drill bits and honestly not sure of the size of it "about the size of a BB". Although i did the oven mitt trick it didn't do anything different. It did start easier and drove better.. but when idling it didn't do any different. Car has a little more power, but when taking off from a dead stop it still stutters. Guess I will update once the catalytic converter is replaced.

  6. or you could have what i had on my 98deville a vacum leak in the throttle body or the gaskets for the air intake

you know what that might be it... where was it leaking from specifically ? you know the gasket that last on top of the throttle body that connects to the plastic air intake ? Its no longer there... but its a tight fit.. thought it wouldn't matter... hmmmmm thanks
