A secondary batter in the back will help you with voltage dropping. By adding the second battery you are giving your system two sources to pull from instead of just the battery under the hood which is being used to run the vehicle and all the OEM electrical systems.

You will see better performance though by changing out the battery under the hood as well. I am guessing it is probably the OEM battery and will not function as well as a good AGM battery.

Another option to help until you get your HO alternator is using the VCM so you can charge at a steady voltage rate.

i had a duralast gold in the back for a while and it did a damn good job of keepin my voltage at 14.5 at idle and it wont drop below 12.8 at full tilt

12.8 is better then 11.9! so i guess a second battery will help me with my voltage issues until i can afford a h.o. alt

What is your setup? Are you planning on adding more? If I were you I would lean into a high output alternator before a second battery.

look into doing the big 3. it should help out slightly. also a new battery wouldn't hurt. maybe keep the gains on your amp down a little until you fix this problem.
