JOSHUA SPARKS BENEFIT BASH
JULY 24, 2010
2768 DECKER BLVD.
COLUMBIA, SC 29223
Joshua is a special four year old who has suffered thru more surgeries and procedures than most of us can imagine. A group of friends (Calling All Friends Foundation or CAFF Calling All Friends Foundation ) has formed and banded with many other friends and friends of friends to show support to Joshua and his family. This is the son of Brandon Sparks, Jacobs only employee at Sundown audio.
Joshua was born on November 15, 2005. Shortly after birth it became apparent that something wasn’t right. He was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect called Tetrollogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia. Basically this meant he had a combination of four heart defects all rolled together. He was transferred to one hospital then to another and had several tests along with a heart catheterization procedure done within his first few days of life.
At seven days old Joshua had his first open heart surgery to repair his heart defects. A couple weeks later he then had to undergo another heart catheter where a wire mess tube called a stent was placed in his pulmonary artery (the blood vessel that supplies blood to the lung) to try to allow more blood flow through the vessel. He stayed for about the first month of his life in the hospital before being released for the first time.
A second open heart surgery was done in the beginning of 2006. Joshua’s blood vessels to his lungs had become smaller over the short time since his first surgery. He had almost no blood flowing to one of his lungs and had to have work done to correct this new problem. He had several complications from this operation including a staff infection in his lungs and a paralyzed diaphragm. The diaphragm is an important muscle babies use to breathe and landed Josh back in the operating room again. This time he had to have his diaphragm plicated to allow him to breathe more easily.
Josh was also diagnosed with failure to thrive and gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). Both of these where connected to his heart condition and surgeries. He had a hard time eating on his own and spent the first several months of his life being fed through tubes called NG and NJ tubes. These tubes aren’t meant to be used long term so another operation was needed.
Josh had an operation to place a feeding tube directly into his stomach through his skin along with a procedure to help him not have reflux called a fundoplication in the summer of 2006. Another open heart procedure followed this in December of 2006. This time it was to replace the artificial valve placed in his heart at his original operation as it had calcified, become smaller, and begun to leak over time.
While at home Josh was a happy guy despite his need for tube feedings, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. He went to feeding clinics to help him learn to eat and monitor his weight but it was a seemingly never ending battle to get him on the growth chart and eating on his own.
Eventually Joshua turned a corner and graduated from physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. He learned to eat after much hard work and stopped using his feeding tube. An operation was needed to close his feeding tube because of the length of time he had had it in the fall of 2007.
Joshua continued to need a little extra help developmentally which he attended a special preschool class for through the 2008-2009 school year. He remains small but is on the growth chart, a major milestone for him. He’s very active and playful yet will continue to deal with his heart condition for the rest of his life.
Josh recently underwent his fourth open heart surgery in April of 2010. Yet another heart cath revealed he was building up too much pressure in his heart again. He had to have his artificial valve replaced along with his pulmonary arteries widened. This will continue to be an issue Josh will have to have surgery for throughout his life. He will remain under the watch of his cardiologist and other doctors as long as he lives.
OK whew.........

Hell yes its coming! haha or should I say I'm not leaving without it!
-
Well we have been getting alot of work done knocking down the list! Gonna save the pics til after SBN. We did take and get the total weight. Stock truck weights around 4000 lbs now it weights 7600 lbs still short 14 batteries and wire also the last bit of fiberglass work. So around 1000 lbs more... haha.
Little teaser pic of numbers we hit tonite. Dropping below 14v(18v system we have the fix coming) at 34hrz 161.1 , at 25hrz we did a 156.7 , at 20hrz we did a 155.something. Still have more testing and more power to install. hopefully we will see a little gain.
See you guys at SBN!
-
Looking good. Both builds! keep the pics flowing
-
That's some sexy goodness right there now!
-
yes i am crooked:)
Looking good bro..... nest stop SBN
-
Thanks guys..... haha yeah it needs a recone. It will be reconed later this week for sure... just doing test with it now... dont want to mess it up with all the mock ups I had to do!
-
So itll be at SBN?!!!!! :hairtrick:
I hope so.
Got some work done on the steering link yesterday. I had to shift the steering a little to make it center up with the new dash to make sure Jimmy and Justin have leg room.
I used a 1" impact swivel to make the new turn.
here is what the old steering used to lock into the shaft I cut it off so I could copy it to an extension
Cutting down a 4" impact extension to fit into the key lock on steering shaft
Pieced it all together I used a 10" impact extension to come out from behind dash
I just tac welded the new steering wheel on the end to get an idea on how its going to look.
Derrick is gonna stop by later today to check everything out and to help me get the bearing right for the shaft. more updates maybe later tonite!
-
Thanks for all the good comments.
Getting ready to head up to shop now and start working on the new steering system for it..... should be interesting. Ill be sure to post up some pictures of it all later. Think I'm going to leave the finish work for the dash and console and floor til after SBN. Time is running out and I have to much other work that needs to get done. Beside everyone keeps telling me pretty is not loud. So ugly it shall be. hahaha
-
Adding two more 3500s and 0.25ohm burps coming after SBN.
Change that after to a during!
-
any updates from sunday?
i wanna see this thing get done!
Nothing yet still looks the same prolly no more work on it til Thursday. Even still its only gonna be halfway done on the inside for SBN. We plan to mold the floor, ceiling console and dash all into one so everything inside can be painted inside. Even the wall and inside diamond still have to be sanded back down and slicked out right once we get back from SBN. Thanks for checking in. I will for sure throw out some updates as soon as we get the rest back in.
-
Looks and sounds good man! Nice numbers
-
damn. thats a shit load of progress...
..i love gettin updates on this build!!!!!! cant wait for the finished product!
howd did the whole thing with the firewall go btw....
thanks a lot
We welded up all steel plates from floor plates to right under window. Fingers crossed that it holds now...lol
-
Finally was able to get some more work done on the dash today
Jimmy got some Rage laid out
Got it sanded down
Test fit equipment back in
Still needs to be skimmed out and sanded again... I'm nooo body guy at all so it takes time to even come close to flat...lol Have fingers crossed that a friend will stop by Sunday to help me slick it out.
-
this truck is a big turd. its just chillin at the shop collecting dust.
Dude you should have worked on it some for his ass! I think with all the dust on it if you just spray some glue around it will be a nice solid build. hahaha
-
Welcome to the team.
-
Yep..it is some shit when you see glass flying at you...i wish we had the first burp on video so you all could see me running the hell out of my blazer when the glass started to hit me in the face!!!
Haha yeah that would have been some funny shit! Thats ok if it broke one it WILL break another. Just make sure to keep the vids rolling at all times
