  1. a little update...

Finally, everything has come in, and we're starting on it. So far, all we've built is the amp/battery box. It's still not completely finished; we still have to carpet it, and add the hinged top. Right now, we're awaiting the design of the sub box. Khaotik enclosures is designing it. We're going to be running the wires, installing the headunit, and hopefully putting the sub in throughout this week. I'll be sure to keep the pics/updates coming, however.

    Anyways, here are some pics:

The amp's going to mount on the left side of the box beside the battery. And, if anyone likes the idea of the amp/battery box, I can post up my sketchup design for you guys if you want to copy it.

Also, I got a deal on this MDF. My local wood supply place is selling 3/4" MDF 4x8sheets for $9 a pop.

  2. A tip for a quick build for your truck just pull your back seats out and all the panels from front to amp so you can run wires easily and they dont lump up in your carpet and what size pipe do you have for your exhuast to run the 5 inch tips because my i can't find any good ones that don't require real large pipe.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I think he's got 2-3/4".. Not my truck tho.

  3. Hey guys. Going to go ahead and start up a build thread. This will be our first audio build, so I'm hoping it goes right. It's going to be for a 2005 Chevy Tahoe Z71 4x4. A little background on the truck: raised 3" with torsion keys, front brush guard, 33" BFG Mud Terrains, PA system, and straight pipes with 5" tips (I'll get a picture up soon). What's going to be going in it:

    Sub:

    (1) 18" DC Audio Level 5

    Amp:

    (1) AudioQue AQ2200D

    Rear Battery:

    (1) Deaka 9A31

    Front Battery:

    (1) Yellowtop

    Wiring:

Knu flex 60ft of 1/0 power wire (1 full run of pos & neg)

Knu RCAs (I noticed these came in a fancy little box... pretty nice)

    Knu 8ga speaker wire

    Headunit:

    Pioneer AVIC-X910BT

Working with some people to get the enclosure designed, and then we'll get to building it... But, it's most likely going to be 1" MDF all the way around with a double for the baffle. Right now, all we've gotten in is the sub and wiring. The rest has been ordered, but it should hopefully be here by the end of the week; definitely by the end of next week.

Now some questions about the headunit. I was told because he has the bose/on-star package, we had to buy the extra $100 harness. We went ahead and bought it, but was there a way around it? We're going to still be using the stock speakers/amp and just adding the sub for now. And, the HU we chose, puts out 2.2v (kinda low) for pre-amp out. Do you think it'll be ok, or should we invest in a line driver? Also, are there any tips for this 'hoe? Such as where to run/hide the wires, etc...

Some pictures of what's come in:

  4. Since your using 2200rms to it I would try to build the box to the larger side of specs, so it is more effecient, I am running the same amp at .5 ohms on my LVL4XL and its eating up the power....

Sounds good to me. I have a feeling he'll be upping amps after awhile. The only thing, what are the "specs"? I'm having a hard time finding them.

  5. Ok guys, I'm gonna need some help with an enclosure. First, some background. I have a friend who everyone had him talked into buying the usual kicker stuff, but luckily I got to him in time. This will be his first setup. Anyways, I coached him through buying an AQ2200D (could have chosen a better amp, I know, but his budget was sort of limited and we didn't feel like going through the hassle of looking for used deals on others), an 18" DC Lv5, and all the other bits. Should all be getting here by the end of this week.

    Alright now to the enclosure:

The vehicle is a 2005 Tahoe Z71 (captain chairs in the rear). Now I measured awhile back, but if I remembered right, it should be 42" (side-side), and 33" (backseat-tailgate) (I'll double check asap). We want to do sub up/ports up or sub up/port back (suggestions?) with sub in the middle and a port on each side (sub up/ports up), or have sub in middle with port on the back. Now the only stipulation is, he would like to have some room to put a cooler/luggage back there. So we were thinking of using up all the room from side to side, and only using what's needed going back to get the optimal volume. We're thinking of placing the battery between the captain seats and making a battery/amp rack to hide the battery.

I'm most likely going to be using 1" MDF all the way around and double it up for the baffle with of coursed 45 degreed angles. Do you think we should use further bracing? And I know that DC hasn't done any parameters on it, so what's everybody doing for them (volume, port area, etc)? Also, if it's possible, would anyone be willing to sketch us up a drawing?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. yep. i'm lost. :search: but which should i get to be able to wire them down so i can get the full 3750 (if possible) out of them??

which amp do you want? The 10k or the 5k? If 10k, then get dual 1Ω subs.

    Plus, how are you getting 3750? 10/4 = 2500...
