  1. I have

    4 Boston G5 12s

    1 Mmats 2000d

current in a 2007 silverado crew cab classic

they are in a 4.8ft^3 single chamber sealed box down firing.

i'm thinking about dropping 2 of the subs and porting the box, but wondering if it would be as loud as the current.

any ideas on box design that would make the system louder and boom harder?

  2. southern sound in statesboro huh.

You remember Brandon that used to work there?? pretty good buddy of mine.

    headin down to sbn?

    Im over in Pembroke

nah i haven't been there that long....only several months or so.

spring break nationals? Nah, my system isn't competition worthy. Its loud very loud, but not comp loud....the hardest part about the setup was deciding to use 2 12s in a vented or 4 in sealed.

  3. Remotes, power, 3 rcas, and 9in1

  4. Seeing as i am still sort of new around these forums, i figure this would be the best place to start

I work at a place in statesboro, ga called Southern Sound, and this is my project while we are slow....The idea was to keep as much of a factory/stock look as possible

    Equipment

-Stinger wiring from head to toe

    -4 Boston G5 12s

    -Diamond Hex components up front

    -Diamond Hex in the rear

-Boston amp running mids and highs

    -Mmats running the subs

Questions and suggestions are always welcome!!

First plan of attack is to get rid of the 60/40 bench seat. I finally tracked down a 40 side of the bench from a salvage yard, removed the 60 and replaced with just the 40 seat. The idea is to keep the back rest to retain cup holders and as much of a factory look as I could

the 40 back rest that I pulled

Old wiring, don't sweat all that is gone now.

how far off the New 40 seat is, I will post pics of the bracket i fabbed up to make it fit

  5. Ok, thanks for all the input guys, but with a little local help from my boys, the problem has been fixed.

for future incase anybody was wondering.

the 2 dual 2 ohm cvr 10s and the 2 ohm phoenix gold amp was clipping and here is the reason

the ohm output of the speakers were sitting about an average of 1.8 ohms (somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.6 - 2.2 ohms)

when the system was cranked up the speakers demanded more power therefore dropping the ohm load to spikes of about 1.4

these spikes were crushing the 2 ohm amp.

so after seeing the meter dropping, I slapped in my 1 ohm stable rockford 1000, which 1.4 spike would be a walk in the park for......and the system beats perfectly, no clipping

  6. decaf - the clipping from the head unit is something i did not think about....i will definately look into this further - great idea. As far as another amp....i don't need anything stronger.....this one was actually more than I wanted. My 9 year old fosgate finally saw its last note about 2 months ago :( :( :( and i just picked up a phoenix gold amp as a quick substitute, then i dropped those 2 cvr 10s in to get some bass.....ran across a killer deal in one of those kicker prefab boxs, talked the guy out of the speakers for 50% off and he kept the box...hahaha, then me and my box builder slapped them in a new box behind the back seat of my crew cab silverado (talk about a squeeze, but we only missed the optimal air space by just a little, and suprisingly it still rocked faces so I kept it)

Yea I used to run optima red tops in my walled out s-10...but my days of that kind of knock is over, 2 10s is enough for me now. I will definately look into a dry cell battery.....hopefully that will save me the cost of getting my alt boosted. I don't want to boost or add a battery for 2 10s.....haha, just not worth it IMO

Yea i'm 100% positive they are wired for 2 ohm....i'm thinking about wiring them back up to a 4ohm load, cutting the power, losing some thunder, but avoid more money being sunk into the system.

as far as my head unit - its just a kenwood HD942

Rainman215 - lol that sucks.....i've seen stuff like that too. I've seen people installing systems without fuses, using tin-foil to jump fuses, etc......

nothing like the smell of melting insulation.

  7. did you do the big 3 up front?

    http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=13280

what size is your power wire running to the back?

tried replacing your starting battery? and adding 1 in the back?

    haven't done the big III.

1/0 going to the back, haven't replaced my starting battery, and haven't added a battery.....i could be wrong but i think 2 batteries might be overkill, eh?

  8. bass boost was set as equal as possible to the gains as not to override, again not set to balls out, this was one of the first things I checked.....but I will look again to make sure nothing is over looked

I haven't put a multimeter on it yet (haven't had access to one, mine broke) but according the cluster when the bass hits....i'm not getting a drop on the voltometer guage (amp might be a different story) This was the first thing I thought....is there any other way I could check this, if not i guess i'll go by and pick up another one......

my grounds are good, nice and big and short, these were also checked....

  9. aight so I needed a drop-in system to hold me over for a while, and I didn't want to comprimise the room in my truck

    my setup up

    2 kicker CVR 10s

    Phoenix Gold 800.1 class D

the Kicker CVRs are wired for a 2ohm load

The amp is 2 ohm stable

however when I crank the volume 90% or more the amp will clip

Then if I am beatin' at say about volume 80% and the notes drop to a low bass the amp will clip

Protection light doesn't come on (to my knowledge) I can see the amp when I look back

The power light turns back on, and the system will start back beating after I turn the volume all the way down for about 5-10seconds.

other symptoms: head lights and cluster dims at night

I've checked the gains on the amp, and i'm not running them balls out, I usually keep them fairly low and use the HU volume to comprimise.

  10. been a fan of the meade heads....yes, i casually substitute the word meade inplace of bass and i'm new to the boards and didn't know where I could just say "hello"...so hello

i've been following steve's work on youtube for sometime and ran across him on the rockford boards sooooo Id figure i'd jump over here and praise the work i see everybody conducting.

sometimes I wish I kahonays(sp?) to seriously mod my ride out for some thunder but after i flipped my tunneled ranger and the cab crushed in...i'm kind of scarred...not scared, literally scarred.....

to make a contribution to the woofer thread, my new truck is a 2007 crew cab silverado and i'm cramming 2 10" cvrs behind the seat, will toss up some pics when it gets done....but I know it won't satisfy my craving for that good ole' 1995 miami quad city hump hahaha

going from 2 JL 13w7s to 2 kicker 10s is going to be disapointing but HEY! somethings better than nothing.....guess I have to live my need for quake through viewing pics and movies of all of you guys crazy rigs.

    anyway, thats my intro.....keep rocking
