Love this.... 125 watts per mosfet... 100v rail (ish) defintaly looks like it needs more power supply.

I just put it together last night, Then booted it up. I was looking into those EXACT extensions! I really hate cables in front of the board.

Got Win 7 Ultimate x64 installed and got the drivers installed. This thing is FAST!

Most people don't realize that faster and faster CPU's aren't the biggest improvement to their machine. I know people who look at building a new gaming machine that have something like a Core 2 quad and a GTX 450 and want to upgrade to an i7 and keep their video card. Unless you're on a very old CPU platform or multi-task hardcore and only have an ancient dual core, then a graphics card upgrade is gonna be the biggest boost for gaming. Glad to see you went with a nice card and a fast SSD for this build. Lots of peeps think fast CPU is better but I'm glad you went the right route!

This one video card outdoes his old setup.

Twin 9800 GX2's in a Quad SLI setup.

Here's a build I did the other night for a friend.

He had the Motherboard and CPU already.

Motherboard: nforce 790i ultra sli

Cpu: Q6700

Antec p280 Case

Cosair 256gig SSD

CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB)-DDR3

EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 560

Thermaltake 850watt power supply.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I only had one cable I couldn't tuck. (too short)

This is a VERY solid and quiet case.

Thats a serious fan - I really like it.....

Actually, that is a heatsink, it's not actually a fan. A fan just disperses air and "attempts" to move heat around in one direction. The job of the heatsink is to "take" the heat generated by the CPU and disperse it in any direction. My heatsink is slightly larger than the one pictured and has a fan that actually helps to remove some of that generated heat.

Regarding the build, it looks like total overkill for a file server. My file server is a "cube" server box I found on Kijiji. 15 TB of storage? That is insane. Why bother backing up your movies when you just watch them once (maybe twice). I personally don't find a purpose for having that much storage for movies, when you're only going to rewatch MAYBE 10 in a few years. I would just re-download them if need be.

The lights are overkill as well, who's looking at the file server?

My fileserver only has one fan, directed at my hard disks. Generally (or depending on where you located it) you want it to be quiet, so a passive solution might be best.

I'm not saying it's a bad build, it actually looks really great but for its purpose, I think it's overkill.

But Overkill is awesome!

The lights actually came with the fans that antec put in the case.

I made sure all disks have a fan on them.

I have has some data loss over the years and that is why there is so much space. I have two separate Raid 5 Volumes with all my important data backed up twice.

I ripped the movies to it for convenience. With the XBMC server\frontend. All my movies are on demand.

also... all fans on this server are turned all the way down... this thing is QUIET!

Now you make me want to build one to put in this little guy . . .

I do have a bunch of Cisco stuff laying around, and I have a another server that is rack mount too.

I keep checking CL around here but either there are no racks or the ones that pop up are overpriced!

Great build. I have almost the same hardware setup. Only things different is the Hard Drive choice and the video cards.

I went with a single video card, But I used 2 128gb solid state drives. I went with raid 0 for even greater speed.

Last time I timed the boot I was somewhere around 8 seconds. :-D
