  1. You asked for opinions... i gave it.

Saying not knowing there was a proper way to chop is like saying you didnt know there was a proper way to play guitar. There are techniques when it comes to all music theory.

If you don't like criticism don't ask for it. You have to take the bad with the good.

  2. In my opinion, you cant really tell someones skill on this song, but thats just me.

To me my version sounded good.

But I chopped it to my liking. What I thought was a better chop for the BPMs. Bigpimpin did a version that was chopped right for the most part just matched thw bpms all kinds of weird. I will forever fuck with him about it. Lmfao

  3. What's that other software people use to do this?
audacity to slow the music. Virtual Dj to chop the music. You can either chop the music when its fast and then slow it... or slow the music and then chop it.Mixvibes pro v 3.11 was a good program but you have to figure out how to record. Some computers i've used can, some cant. Before you attempt it understand what im talking about when i say counts. If you can figure out the bpms you can adjust the bpms on each song on virtualDj and it will chop the songs perfectly.Good luck and dont let it discourage you. When you can chop your own music and people like it... its a GREAT feeling. :)

I totally understand everything you're saying man, now I have to let it sink, and apply it, it's just like learning formulas in math, look at the formula then the problem then the formula repeat... eventually you can just do the problem.look at rules look at song repeat eventually I'll get it and get better at it.Right?
dude i listened to cd's of all my chopping and screwing days from like ten years ago and i SUCKED back then.I only REALLY got back into when i starting lurking around this forum. I never knew how mainstream it became and how widespread it got FROM TX. I only screw and chop music that i cant find the way i like it. Sometimes its not slow enough or the chops are too fast.So i go back to getting down on my songs. I dont want to thread jack. I posted this a while back but the link was deleted due to inactivity. This is my version of dirty diana.dirty diana VDJ.mp3Now while some people might not like the way it sounds but again i did it MY liking. :)Some of the chops are off because i still get carried away with the crossfader but i was JUST getting back into doing it after a long period of time that i didnt.

  4. Ok I'll try to put it gently...

Technically you are not chopping anything.

It is Almost impossible to achieve what you are trying to do with Audacity.

I will repost a couple of comments i made on another thread. It explains it to where you might understand it.

ok Being a person who grew up listening to Slowed and chopped music... and has made his own slowed and chopped music... I'm sorry dude it sounds SLOPPY.1. I'm not feeling different pitches at different times.2. your chops are not considered chops. All your chops are doing is bringing the music back at the same spot. lets me try to explain the way chops work. Lets say you have a four count:

    1-2-3-4
You want to chop those counts. you dont go:
    1-1-2-3-4
    - Thats five counts now. Which is what's goin on with your chops.
    2-2-3-4
    - is What you want to happen. The chops go forward a count and then back a count so you get the second count twice. Is that too confusing to anyone?lets say you want continuous chops for lets say a 8 count
    2-2-4-4-6-6-8-8
every other beat brought back once and then played at their spot in their actual real time place.Lets put this theory to music. The lucky charms theme....you dont go.
frosted frosted lucky charms charms, their magically magically delicious delicious.
thats too many counts lets say it's an eight count chopped every other count.
Frosted frosted charm charm magic magic licous licous.
say it in your head and see if it sounds right to you.The words don't finish but that's because they are in the middle of a count.I know i've completely confused everyone but i hope some one understood it.On top of everything i really only heard like maybe three chops on the first download. If you just referred to the act of slowing the music down as screwed and chopped then you made a mistake. Screwing(slowing) is the act of slowing it down. Chopping is the act of chopping the beats.

  5. I would say yes and no.

Yes because... well she seems like she may be into you...

No because - You DO work together and if something happens then it would become an awkward environment. And that's not to mention that your company may have a policy against employees dating.

I say stay a friend until she fucks around and let's you hit. That would take all the mystery out of it and help you decide what you wanna do.

BTW - If you couldn't tell that last line was a joke. lol

  6. Your song's tempo is slow as FUCK! With that being said use audacity to slow the SPEED and it will even out the pitch and tempo pretty well. The chops are pretty slow as well. It was a hard song to do in all honesty.

Your friends songs pitch is a little off but the chops are perfect to me. The Flange is a little heavy look for "Flange lite" in virtual DJ's effects.(assuming that's what you are using.)

All in all you want to resample the song to make the voice and music sound different.

If the voice's pitch sounds the same just slow then you are not resampling right.

Don't stop trying. It is a very good effort on your part but it does take practice. :)

  7. Lol well I got it slowed down the way I like it. Now I'm just having problems choppin it on Virtual Dj.

Lol thanks for the example but I still don't know how to chop it yet. Lol just slowed it down. Still learning

The trick is to always use the crossfader. Keep the beat in your head. If you want a simple count use a 1-2 count. Start the first deck on the first count and start the second deck on the second count. Make sure your crossfader is RESTING on the second Deck you started.

Now using that same count move the crossfader on the first beat and then back on the second. It helps to kind of get a feel for the beat before you chop it.

yeah it wasnt worth getting technical at all, the average reader wouldnt benefit from an explanation of

if it was real turntable u would have the same record on both tables and crossfade with some great timing, with one record a beat off...

classically u would chop the fourth beat so u can repeat the first twice, but thats ancient... people use computers to show location of beat changes... so its gotten easier

ANYTIME i chopped music i used this method.

Shortcuts are so cheap sounding. any one who chops or in the very least mixes music NEEDS to learn to use a crossfader.

listen to my version of in the air tonight. Bigpimpin also has a version of this song with slower chops.

    in the air.mp3

Basicly my chops are going to a faster BPM. to me i like the way i chopped it. OTHER people don't but usually i chop music for me. I rarely share unless asked to. lol

  8. having a great background in music theory helps with understanding timing and how to keep the right beat pattern

i hate it when people time shit wrong

i hear ya hating < example

    i i hear ya hating < bad

hear hear ya hating < good

Ahh, but then we get technical.

You always want to chop a beat and not a word. Sometimes the words fall on off beats which gives the illusion of no beat or chop. The chop comes from the beat being repeated. :P:drinks:

But Yeah you definitely got the right theory. :)

DSM this man right here could definitely school you. listen to what he says. :clapping:

  9. What programs do you guys use to chop your songs? I was looking around and found a program called screwlab? I tried it out and failed. Lol  And does anyone by any chance have the song My 808's Chopped By Matty G?

    ScrewLab sucks huge donkey dick.

Audacity to slow and Virtual Dj to chop.

yea man its cool...theres a recording feature which records what you do as an mp3 so like I said I mix it live and record while im doing it and thats how i get my mp3:) its also super easy to slow and bass boost using it

If you slow with Virtual Dj it might not be sampled right... And bass boosting with virtual DJ is even more fail. :(

Lets see some work man. I Love critiquing fellow a screwhead's work. lol

  10. I just gotta have this song! The one in Tommy McKinnies vid, In the air tonight, if you make it to 25-38hz range that would be perfect! Or to make it like it sounds on the vid. PM me and name your price :) I will pay through paypal.

Here`s the vid of the song

Ok Are you asking for it to be Chopped and screwed? or bass boosted.

I thought that Tommy's was custom made for him.

If you are looking for his bass boosted version then i'm not sure of where you are gonna find it.

As far as screwed and chopped goes....

You might like it... you might not...

    Free of charge...

  11. Ok here we go again...

    Audacity to slow music down.

    Virtual Dj To chop.

You can experiment with Screwlab but from my experience it's a POS.

I used to Use Mixvibes Pro v.3.11. It worked well but only SOME computer would allow you to save. Not sure why but thats the way it was.

Whatever you use Please Use the Crossfader. Shortcuts sound sloppy.

    Thank you. :P
