  1. Usually in my experience they seal themselves. You could probably seal them with resin or caulk, but that could end up with really messy threads on the bolt. Bolts are really easy to use as long as you use them with ring terminals.

    Ring terminals look like this:5Copper-Ring-Terminals-for-.jpg

Make sure if you are using 1/4 inch bolts that you drill a 1/4 inch hole, even a 1/16 of a inch smaller is okay as long as the bolt is snug so there is no air leak.

anyone know where i could get ring terminals for 12 awg? and does it really matter what metal the terminal is made of? if so what are the ones to look for?

  2. so i wanna use brass bolts or brass screws or w/e brass i can find to use as terminals to avoid runing a long speaker wire through the port of the new box im going to build tomorrow. whats a good way to keep the wire thats inside the box from coming off the bolt? i was thinking maybe sliding on two nuts and wrapping the wire around the bolt between the nuts and then tighten the nuts together then put some glue or something on the outter side of each nut to keep them from moving on the bolt. does that sound like a good idea or do u guys have any better suggestions?

  3. how loud are you wanting to be? the grand prix i did with two tens is fuggin loud. he does a 145@38hz on a tl

as loud as i can get lol. a 150 would be nice. the reason i am insisting on 2 15s is cuz thats what i already have. and id rather hold on to them and use them instead of trying to sell them to get 12s. i guess if i have to build the box in the trunk i can deal with it. never done that before... but i guess theres a first time for everything.

  4. is it duable?yes.but just that like everyone states you wont have that much trunk space left i have 2 15s in my trunk in my 01 grand prix but i dont like it as the subs that i have need a ported box so im just goin to down grade to 2 12s should sound louder since im goin from sealed to ported.just save your self the headache and get 2 12s so that way you have room to put in the extra stuff that you need. and belive me i think its harder to fit in 2 15s in a trunk then 2 12s cause the box will be smaller cause DAMN i hate having to take out the subs and they are a BEEZY to do it.

shit well incase anybody was confused, i ment 2 15s PORTED. not sealed. thinking 6.5 - 7 cubes minimum...

  5. Take measurements of your trunk and calculate the volume in the trunk from there.

CLARIFICATION EDIT: What I did for the trunk of my '96 when calculating trunk space was I split the trunk into two rectangular parts (thats just how it ended up; try dividing the trunk into rectangular parts to make it easier to calculate) then find the length, width and height of each rectangle. multiply LxWxH to get volume, then combine them together and thats the maximum volume you can get from the trunk, barring displacements and added volume from the spare well, the deadspace around the wheel wells, et cetera...

did u read my first post of the thread? i dont actually have this car. this is the car that i want to buy when i get my money together. ive had one before but i crashed it, so i have a rough picture in my head of how big the trunk is, but i dont have it to go out and measure.

  6. You can also put the extra battery in the spare tire compartment and make a false floor. I seen that in the member builds section for a grand prix.

well if it comes to it i might just end up doing that. after all, if i build the box into the trunk, i wont be able to get the spare tire out anyways so i might as well take it out

  7. I have a 2002 grand prix gt 4 door and im running into the same problem. my seats dont fold down and i wanted to put 4 12's but that idea is toast. its tough just to put 2 twelves in there. But, yeah, once you actually get the box in, you actually have room.

if i actually built the box in the trunk, how big of a box do u think i could fit? cuz i was shooting for 7 cubes. idk if that is realistic though... if only SUVs got the kind of gas milage that cars did, id just roll with a suburban lmao.

  8. ...Maybe build in the trunk, shallower box taking most if not all of the trunk with subs firing up? Don't know if that would work or not but it's an idea...Just make sure that the subs won't hit anything.

thats prolly what ill have to do. i have 2 15" fi bl's and id rather just use those instead of selling them for cheap just to waste more money to buy something else.

  9. well..I have a 2006 Grand prix...and I can just barely fit my 13.5s in there. The Max Height for my box is maybe a hair over 16". I really think you would have a hard time with the 2 15s....ya know ..maybe a Fiberglass box would help...but it still might be tough and EXPENSIVE

hey before you just go to 12s look at the JL 13W3's they are really nice..I just sold my 2 to get a 13W7

well im looking into a sundown 3500d so any of JL's product would get fried

  10. I am gonna say it is do-able,but you arent gonna have a trunk left after it, I am building a 6.5 cube box for my grand am(03), when it is put in I am gonna have probably about 4-5 inches left in front of the sub(this is firing at the tail of the vehicle). First of all do your seats fold down, if so it would make it much easier to get a larger box, next take height and width measurments of said opening then you already have 2 of 3 basic measurements needed to determine the size of box you will be able to fit.

well thats the thing, i dont want to fold my back seat down.

  11. Eh, bad example i dont quite like the build quality of the xxx and think its a bit over rated

So far i like the cones better on the XLs, but i still want to play around with the 5s a bit more :)

i dont understand how that answers my question about why i should not use a level 5 as a daily sub?

  12. i really have no exposure to any sq and sql subs. dont have many people near here that are into car audio. my next setup ill prolly be running 2 18s or 4 12s or something like that, and ill prolly be getting 2 AQ 3500d's. all ive been looking into are the high power spl drivers, and i havent really looked into any sq or sql drivers. and when i just now thought of it, i dont really know of that many lol. so im thinking if i do 2 18s, theyll need to be able to handle 2k - 3k rms each daily, or if i do 4 12s, be able to take 1500ish rms daily. throw some suggestions at me, im open to pretty much anything.
