  1. id go 4 ported with lvl4 coil maybe one stiff spider instead of the med. stock and stitched leads i like the 32 hz tuning andif you go 6 sealed it might not extend as low but they would really be punchy and sound like tens.the flat wound lvl4 coils sound better and i think they are more effecient also (i could be wrong) run that sundown below 1 ohm if you can get the coils right and let them things get down low.

  2. clean out the seal across the bottom you can wipe it with a wet microfiber or you can find moleskin to put on the inside of the seal which helps alot but can still hold onto small dirt and sand which is the main cause.

  3. just did a pair of planet audio bb2400's strapped to a (yes one) Xl15 1 extra spider and stiched leads never once has he had it stink or even get warmer than would be considered normal, its all about the install, and that starts when you break out the peice of paper to draw up the cut sheet for the box. as soon as this guy gets another battery up front we will strap at 1/2 ohm (yes they will play that low) he may recone for 1 ohm but either way i dont see any problems showing up for him, box is 4 cubes 15-16 sq.in. per cube on the port. long story short if you know what your doing those subs will handle damn near whatever you throw at them.

  4. the SD is a monster in a tiny package it will run without a problem all day long has good protection plenty of power at 1ohm no reason to push that amp any harder on a daily kinda deal with good voltage and batteries even with (decent) rise you will still see 7k or so your gonna need plenty of sub too oh and a bad ass box to handle that much power long story short almost hands down SD

  5. going from 4 to 6 was a bit much on the xl's. sounds like they are just still real tight but i would think in your case 5 would be just about right but since your ready for recones to go with 5 may as well see what these things do you know how low can they go and what the next breaking point or has thor met his match a sub he cant destroy unless clipped to hell and back on 4k apeice

  6. after a bit of descusion on the rise factor free air although not exactly the same a busted out the old hacked up extension cord and a few speakers that needed replacement on all the tests on three different subs i had a 2x rise when clamped from there wired imp. so if we use that as a rough guide we are talking waht 2500 to 3000 range from that amp at 4 ohm? of course there will be the nah sayers but none the less more than the 1000 that was said it couldnt handle.

  7. you have to think of rise since he was wired at 2ohm free air rise is alot (correct me if im wrong) so lets say the amp is seeing 10ohm with a 5x rise which wouldnt be out of line i dont think, that amp should do somewhere around 2k maybe more maybe less but every bit of 1000w that tommy says his wouldnt take cleanly and in that vid looked like it handled it just fine and no former breaks either? so as of yet you hasvent broke anything so far all is well now get to testing i know its cold up there so warm up the garage and do something for christ sake

  8. thats why they should use a flange all molded one peice of carbon on the bottom side that could fit around or inside (which ever stronger) the former and tons of glueing area and the ability to fold the former to the inside of the flange and glue there like a conventinal cone but this would require a vacum molded bottom sandwhich plate and of course a bit more work which would probably extremely strong and a bit more aerodynamic on the back side of the pie but my guess is they been planning this out for a good bit and have most of the kinks worked out on paper but the real world will tell the true story which is why we build then test test and test.

  9. sick so you guys did pay attention in geometry after all.yeah ive played with some carbon before even jsut two layers is pretty unbreakable but it does flex,no flex here as we can see so i guess the only other "problem" to put to rest is the former to carbon pie glue joint.but man i bet these things wont be cheap but hopefully more cost effective than the DD composites. keep testing and rolling tape so we can really see whats up. take one from thor push it till it breaks and make it better then retest then maybe shes customer ready.cuz us americans do put a beating on stuff especially the nuckleheads we all know some of those guys,we would want any i told you so's start to fly around.

call it the carbon pie option.

how did it do in the box that it was in, in the first pic in the thread?

that had to be at least 1500w at the 40hz range and quite possibly a good bit more but at least 1500

  10. customer has a 86 box caprice looking for more than a ported box firing back.got 41 wide 26 deep height1 17 height2 14.7.8 gross internal was talking 2 xl 15's but not sure if they will squeeze in that space very well so maybe 3lvl4 12's hoping somone has experience on getting these things loud was thinking maybe firing into the car but that space is limited due to the floor coming up because of gas tank maybe ported through the rear deck but im sure someone has got on of these loud before let me know how you did it. should be around 3k with rise
