100.4 or 50.4?
-
Depends on what car you have and what the stock alt puts out. Also, what battery is under the hood too.
-
What will you be powering them with and is there any certain brand you prefer?
-
If those are the only features you really care about you can get a HU for way less than $500. I will be posting up a BNIB HU here soon, once I charge my camera, that has the features you want for much less than $500.

i mean tune up that doesn't evolve any money
Huh?
take out your air filter and bang it on the ground to get the loose dust out?
-
lol
i have a 1998 Plymouth grand voyager 3.3
how can i tune it up a little?
Maybe a drop in high flow filter. Probably wont feel any difference though, maybe an extra 1-2 mpg. Anything other than that is going to have to be custom and not be worth the price for the gains.

You dont want backpressure at all. What you need is exhaust velocity. Backpressure is bad and reduces power horribly. You could take any car/truck and redo the whole exhaust with nothing but straight pipe, Not too small so it wont scavenge all the exahust gases from the cylinders, but not too larger so you loose velocity from the cylinders from removeing and pushing out the exhaust as fast as possibly. You could take a a camaro, mustang, corvetter or even a civic and stright pipe it to a correct size not to small yet not to large and it will make more power than any exhaust you could put. Haveing a cat and a muffler are only there to meet with regulations of emissions and db exhaust levels. Aftermarket exhausts are very much more freeflowing then stock but still restrict compared to open header/s or straight pipe/s. I would deffintally look into a better intake deffintally a cold air intake absolutly with a heat shield to keep away from engine bay heat, high flow air filter, and pretty much everything ktownsdriftking said theres just no reason for me to repeat it.
This is true to a point. It depends on where you want your power band.

i know, it piece of crap, but i need to get better sub first
A better sub is gonna need a better amp.
-
Went out with some friends once. Fun stuff. I'd love to do it again.
-
HAHA. Thanks for the chuckle.

is there any way there can be a voltage short if the positive touches the engine block?
Yes! If you dont disconnect that battery that is. Always disconnect the batt when doing something like that.

Hey guys if you go to post #68 I talk about the lower end version of the Vellman Scope.
http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...st&p=608155
That should take you rite there.
My 2 complaints about are, no matter how well you calibrate it the voltage was off by .7 volts to 1 whole volt when I used it with my Fluke 112 DMM.
The second complaint is that I wish the AC ripples the scope shows you were alittle more sensitive or detailed.
For what we do setting gains it still works great for it but if you have alot of gains to match I do recommend hooking up a highend DMM with the scope and once you have your numbers you need put the scope away and finish matching your gains on the rest of the amps with the more sensitive DMM.
Twelve 2,000 watt amps. Do the first one with the scope and DMM hooked up at the same time. Get your voltage numbers, put the scope away and do the other 11 2,000 watt amps with the DMM.
The Velleman is going to be at least a half volt off from the real numbers you need.
Besides that I'm plenty satisfied with my Vellman HPS10se.
Cool. Thanks for the info. I already have a nice Blue-Point DMM, that is why I was looking for a cheap scope.
-
Ahaha, what?
It's an o-scope. Since when did we measure ohms with an o-scope...
Ok, so I was right with my above statement then.
-
but i read that these only get to like 2 ohms?
is ther one that does 1 ohms and up?
Not sure. I didn't think that mattered cause it is used to match the gain(input sensitivity) to the signal coming from the HU. Once the gain is set correctly then the impedance shouldn't make the amp clip or not right? Or am I way off?

I asked the same question not too long ago. Click

You need to read up on scopes a bit
You put the probe on positive then the o-scope's ground clip on negative.
Yeah, I know. It's getting late for me now. I'll prob have some time to kill this weekend though.
-
I just noticed the scope I linked only has one probe. That means that one wont work for setting gains? No pos. AND neg. terminals?
-
Thinking about getting an o-scope so I can set my gains the right way. I have never messed with one, so I have no idea what to look for. I already have a nice DMM, so I just want a scope for...well, you know. I found this on ebay but like I said I have no idea what to look for. Any suggestions? Don't want to spend more than about $200 right now. Should I save for a little while?
-
fuses on the amp itself look intact, for some reason they arnt curved like alot, they are staggered but look normal. if someone could please tell me how I could check that would be great
Do you have a DMM?
-
Fuse?

OOPS. Double Post.

oh ok well it cant hurt to try huh espcially with the hu i threw out there it has a lot of goodies but not every cd player can have all the featuers right
Oh, of course. I'm not bashing you or your HU at all. It just doesn't have what I am looking for, that's all. Kinda like some people may not like the choice I made cause it doesn't play DVDs or something. Everyone wants something different.
-
oh ok well i seen them on ebay for like 140 an on some websites but just keep it in mind if u dont find what ur looking for
That's a good price. I found what I was looking for though. It is in the first post. I was just curious if anyone knew of something similar for a better price.

take a look at the kenwood kdc-x692 head unit i have it its great lots of featuers bluetooth um u can change the backround pictuers( moving pics or still pics) u can program phone numbers into with the accesories um its got a usb cord built in lots of featuers u can mess with its got front rear an subwoofer out puts it plays mp3 an burnt cds just a whole bunch of stuff an its not the that bad priced either
Thanks for the recommendation but that HU is discontinued and doesn't have some of the features I want like 3-way crossover and time alignment adjustment.

I run the Polk Audio Mobile Monitor Series and like it a lot. They make 4x6 plate speakers and 6 1/2" components and coax.

In order to get a good front stage to compete with those xls you have you will need much more than just a set of 4x6 up front though.
