ready for the two aero ports and sub now! I cant wait to hear it!

    carpetrack.jpg

my glue gun was clogged up (because somebody didnt fill it with acetone while it was sitting) so I literally used a paint brush to apply glue to the amp rack and the back of the carpet. that rack is gonna loo good when its done!

I got so much mdf dust on me, I didnt even look black anymore! Just jokin. Thats exposport.

  3. I have been planning to do a build in my car for about 3 years now and finally got into it this week. Here is a run down of my audio equipment:

    Head Unit: Eclipse CD7000

Fronts: Diamond Audio Hex Compenents 6.5"

    Rears: Jbl P963 6x9's

    Big 3 upgrade: Welding cable

Alternator: Motor City Reman 200 amps HO

Seconday Battery: Shuriken 2600 cca dry cell

Sub: Planet Audio BB215D 15" 1500watts rms 3000 watts peak

    4 channel: Arc Audio FD4150

    Mono Block: Arc Audio FD1200.1

Sound deadening: Hushmat and elemental designs edead about 3 layers all over

    sound_deadened_trunk.jpg

I started by sound deadening the entire trunk

    rear_deck2.jpg

Then I did the rear deck

    sound_deadned_front_doors.jpg

Then I hit all 4 doors

    ampbed.jpg

this is a pic of the sub amp. The 4 channel is identical. The grey end caps hide all of the wiring.

    ampfan.jpg

Arc Audio boasts that these amps were meant to be played for long periods of time without over heating. they have internal 3" cooling fans on the bottom

    paintedampracks.jpg

after finding the right angle, I cut out 3" holes just below the internal fans so they can breathe and painted the mounts black.

    amprackbase.jpg

After I cut out the base for my amp rack, I mounted the amps at a slight angle toward each other.

    ampfloating2.jpg

the amp racks will give the eye the perception that the amps are floating!

My buddy exposport came by to help and boy did he ever. Special thanks to him. We make a great team!

Test fit the first top plate on the amp rack. Looking good

mounting a 15" sub in a 16" tall box leaves you no room for error...

I mounted the sub off center to leave room for my to aero ports

  4. So, different sub+same set up = more DB? And that is all I need to do? Seems like I would need more than that but maybe I am wrong. Anyway, I am working on getting a digital designs 9500 but in the mean time, getting rid of the mtx is not an option til someone buys it from me

  5. you know all 3 of us were at that comp? ;) i recognized the decals on your avy on your HHR and was like oh snap i recognize that car

and skittles i love your avy lol

Oh yeah!!! He was the guy with the two 18's right? Didnt one of them get damaged or somethin like that?

Evolution, I put a small sealed boxed sub in my trunk and ran tones starting from 30hz up to about 55hz and found the frequency that metered the highest. I only had my volume about halfway up.

  6. Quoting on the topic or just being a smart ass that has notthing good to input on subject. Anyway depending on what your tuned will help your numbers but dont go too high cuase like I said it more than likely will not be pleasant to yor ears. Is that better Skittles?! Hope it meets your undeniable wisdom "O" smart ass.

Skittlesrgood wasnt being a smart ass. My box isnt tuned to 49hz. That is just my cars resonate frequancy. My box is tuned to somewhere between 32-35 hz.

  7. I got in my first comp last week. I hit 141.3 db with a single mtx 9500 15 with an arc audio fd1200.1 putting about 1500 watts on it @ 2ohms. The box I am using is made by audio enhancers. The model number is tx400 It has 3.98 goss cubes and about 3.35 net, the port area is 46 sq inches. The resonant frequency of my car is 49 hz. I was wondering what you all thought I could do to gain some db. Should I change my port tuning? Any and all input will be greatly appreciated. I am gonna ride out these next few comps with this box but would like to start out next year with whatever box would be best for my car. Thanks in advance!

  8. I think this thread would be nice for all first timers, so I am gonna post all info i can remember and I am gonna share all the pointers I got. I hope that everyone else that can add any input will do the same. so here it goes.

The first thing, I did at the test and tune was I played sweeps. Now, I didnt even have to play full tilt. Just about 3/4's up to listening volume. The judge told me what the area he saw that I was peaking around and then told me that we could start closing in on my peak frequency. We started at around 35 hertz and played tones for about 5 seconds and moved up one frequency at a time. I got to 41 and it was my highest frequency and then we went to full volume. Then we played at 41 hertz and went up to about 44 hertz and noticed that we were actually going down in db's. Then he started giving me a few pointers to help me improve even if just by 1/10 of a db.

Scoot all seats forward and fold the lumbar as far forward as you can

test your numbers with the box facing forward, backward and upward to see which will give you the best

    fold your back seat down

if you can somehow adjust your idle speed to 2000 rpms

keep your passenger compartment cool by leaving the windows down or running the a/c for a bit before you run

All of these things increased my numbers combined for 1 db which based on my losing by 5/10's you can see that is alot!

Anyhow, that is all I can think of for now, so if anyone wants to add some pointers that would be awesome for me and for all first timers. It is really fun and all of the people were really cool. I met a really cool guy that is gonna compete at every comp with my other friend and I.

  9. Hey guys, a couple of my buddies and I are thinking about starting a competition team. We wont be hard core competitors but we'd really like to do it for fun. I was wondering if any of you could help me figure out where I could get some team shirts made. The button down ones that most competitors wear. Thanks in advance!

  10. So today was the day of the competition. I got there a little early and tuned my car. I found that my peak frequency was 41 hz. I wanted to go into the street stock class since it was my first comp and the judge was being helpful and told me that he would rather see me go into street B or super street no wall. For some reason, I felt more comfortable doing super street over street B because I was afraid to run without the car running. Silly me in hind sight, I would have only needed to run a tone for 5 seconds or so. Anyhow, I ended up coming in 4th place hitting 141.3 @ 41 hz. I didnt win but I still took 4 other guys down with me... I was so upset because if I would have been in street B, I would have an easy win because the only guy in the class hit a 139... Awesome, I know. Right? All in all, I really wanted to go home with a trophy. and left kinda bumbed out, but when I got home and thought about the day I had... I HIT 141 DB!, THIS TIME INSTEAD OF BEING THE SPECTATOR, I WAS THE GUY THAT THE WHOLE CROWD WAS WATCHING!, I FELT SO PROUD TO HAVE SUCH AN AWESOME CAR AND SET UP!, ALL OF THE COMPETITORS WERE SO COOL AND I GOT SO MANY CONTACTS!, I HAD A FUCKING BLAST!!!!! I AM OFFICIALLY HOOKED!!! My friends and I are gonna start a competition team and just do it for fun, ride to comps together and have fun! Thanks for all of the help guys! Now can someone tell me where to get tea button down shirts made?

  11. Hey guys. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I am getting in my first comp this weekend! I have been wanting to compete since I was 18 years old and I am finally gonna do it at age 30. I was hoping that you all can help me with a few questions because I have no clue what to do but I know you guys have alot of knowledge so I couldnt think of anyone else to turn to. One of my really good friends from team sundown will be there as well and will help me a ton but here are my questions.

    1. without a meter to test and tune on, can I get a good idea of what song to use just by ear?

    2. will I also be able to do the same to figure out if my box should be facing upward or backwards?

    3. I found my resonate frequency over a year ago, and think it was 49 hertz but dont remember for sure. Does that sound high or realistic?

    4. How does the comp work? how long do I have to play for and should I play the whole time or just a ?burp???

    5. should I keep my foot on the gas a little bit to get my rpm's up to about 2000?

    6. is it true that I should run my a/c for a little bit before I drop the knob? I heard that if the cab has cold air in it, it will move more

    7. frequency is correct, do I want a song that plays that note exactly? or higher? or lower?

    8. Termp's rules said that I have to play music and not sweeps. Does bass mekanik qualify as "music"?

    9. in between runs, should I keep my radio off?

    10. should I have my volume set to normal listening volume, or higher?

    11. Should I turn my gain up higher? right now I have it set to blend with my mids and highs but think I have more room to go up. Its set at about 25% right now.

I know that is alot of questions. I apologize for asking so much at once. I really appreciate it guys. Thanks in advance!
