  1. Well the subs came in today :clapping: so I should start building the box tomorrow or friday as long as this rain stops. I guess I'm going to just go by the specs of the subs and build a basic vented box to 14 cu. ft total with a 10 by 10 flared square vent because the specs say 2 4 inch diameter ports at 18.5 inches long per sub. Thats 25.12 square inches of port per sub so I just rounded it to 25 square inches and 4 subs equals 100 square inches. Unless someone has any suggestions on the port size, this is what I will build. It is a daily driver and I want to at least get into the 150s because I will do sound offs. The 146 I got was definitely not loud enough for me. I want more :hairtrick: :hairtrick:

After I got my trophy this year, they said they goona open both parts of the collisium, the original one and the new part they buildin and are gonna use the parking lot they been using and the other one where spectators park....its gonna be huge :clapping:

I think I missed all the good stuff at Scrapin' this year. Of course I was only there for like 3 hours because it was SO effin hot. I'll be at cruisin though.

Build looks good sir, more pics.

Well the cop just looked at it and said nice minibar and kept asking if I had any weapons lol...not a damn think about have I been drinking. I will start buildin the new box once I get the new subs in and it stops raining over here :sorry: I cant get anything done...cant wait to get a garage.

man that van is sick got and vids of it and how does vinal sound on the 4 15's

Thanks, it sounds awesome with music...really good on the lows since its a folded horn so the bass travels a good bit past my van. I dont have any vids right now but I will once I build the new box in a week. I had a leak in the back of my van and it ruined some of the box and my mixer for the turntables... :censored:

  4. Ok, I made a design real quick...I didnt get to add the smooth edges from fiberglassing and all of the 6.5s and tweeters going on the front and back of the box but this is the basics. The black rectangle on top will be a 15" monitor. Hope yall like it. Its going to be 15 cu. ft without the port.

I didn't realize the horn part on top of the box. hmmm. and that far to the back of the van. Trying to rethink what I mentioned earlier.

Maybe a half wall, subs and port firing forward with what I was talking about earlier. I'm not sure.

Was that 146 on music or tone?

It was on a tone...Like I said, I feel like rebuilding a better box and the back of my van has a leak now so some of the mdf is swole up :aggressive: They have some 3/4" Birch plywood on sale for $25 so I might get it now while its that low and because incase I have a leak again it wont swell...

That is one nice van! I love the turntables.

I can promise you those pyles(unless they are Eminence US made) are not a loaded horn sub. Better fit for bandpass. The Soundstreams will be a good upgrade and I'm going to say a few db's over what you get now.

I know they are made for a horn type enclousure but it was worth a try. I use folded horn enclosures when I dj and i wanted a different box so I made the one I have now. The box does hit the lows extremely well but the highs are basically lost.

    Nice setup you got.

Vented might get you 3dB. I know you say anything but a wall but here's an idea you could toss around. Build a removable barrier for the top of the box to seal off the front from the back. Something that could be laid down on top of the box when not competing and it'd blend in with what you've got going on in the van now. when you want to compete, lift up the barrier, snap it in place, and go at it.

That's about all I can think of right now that would not really mess up what you've got going right now. When I think of Astro's and stereos, I automatically think of walls. They pretty much go hand in hand together.

Now where would I put the wall panel...even with the pillar for the back of the sliding door?....and would I have to put a port of some sort to allow the air to travel through? I was planing to at least fiberglass and put at least one sheet of wood and dynamat for the roof liner to help with the flex.

that is one sick lookin van you got there my friend the t5 subs will get you close depend how much power you have for them they need no less than a 1000 rms if you don't want to wall it maybe fire them up port back intergrate it into your bar some how that would look good

Well if they dont get at least a 150 in the old box, the box will be history. I was planning to build a vented box with the subs up and port back anyway. I wanted to make it a nice fiberglass top with curves too, not just a plain jane cube lol.

  7. On Saturday, I was parked by the back corner by the big Collusium sign because the show was so packed. Sunday, I was parked up front close to where the sound competition was......a little past the last concession stands. I got there early so I could get an open spot so Dropjaw could get some pics.

  8. never been a big fan of vans but that is a sexy one for sure man

Thanks...theres still alot of custom work to be done. I wasnt a fan either at first but I am a DJ and needed something to haul my gear so i got it. Soon i was DJing in arenas and had alot more equipment so I bought a uhaul. It was so worth the money. I then needed something to do with the van so I thought speakers and anything custom...n more speakers lol

try new subs same box see what that does for ya

I will soon as I get them in...should be in by around Wednesday.

  9. Ok, well I have a custom 97 safari van. I already have 4 pyle 15s in a horn loaded box. I only got a 146 out of it at Scrapin the coast this year and I want more. :hairtrick: .I just bought 4 Sounstream t5 15s and want to try a new box design. I am going to try the subs in the old box to see what they can do but I have custom fever and want to make a new box. I was thinking of making a show quality fiberglassed basic vented box with subs up with magnets up and port/s back but want to know if there is anything else that maybe I can try....besides a wall......I put to much work into the interior and like the Jagermister machine between the front seats with the minibar and wood floor lol. I have some pics of my current setup if they work lol. Thanks for any help.
