this is where i am at with the new box. there is still a lot of rounding to do on the port. the left side of the port is squared to fit some sort of loading wall that i am trying.
got my wires tucked up out of the way.
-
freq for ss1-2 is 80 hz for the 2012 season anytime you have a box like that loading is going to be diffrent between the 2 subs, i did NW for some time
i know you did. want to share any tips ?
-
thanks to everyone for the input. i am shooting for around 59 hz with my new box which i am just finishing. 59 hz should help with some of the cancellation issues. 59 hz is the limit i think this year for ssnw. With that much power, why are you running at such a low frequiency ?? Shouldn't you be tuned closer to 65 htz ??

I spent a weekend testing freg, amps, volts, imp rise, batteries and writing everything down. I have done this a few times before but my setup changes from time to time and I have to do it again. So here is what I am curious about. Two level 5s one of the two is right next to the port it is a ssnw box. Both amps set to 100 volts then I hook up the wires to the subs and test imp rise to each sub. Sub closest to the port is going to be different due to less box pressure I know but how do I adjust or what can I do to improve the situation. I have around 11,000 watts of clean power from the amps but can only use around 6,500 watts due to the big difference in backpressure on the two subs. two 18” level 5s I have the box apart right now and making changes so this would be a good time to try something if anybody has any ideas. Last test I did had me at 155.7 db, freg 46hz, 6,500 watts with 1 and a half times rise.
this is an old pic of the box i am working with subs are now much closer and port area is much larger.

In testing two days before world finals I accidently burped my level 5 18s at 20hz on around 7000 watts. After that little deal I had no more level 5s so I tried a pair of level 4s but forgot that they were half the impedance of my levels 5s. That left me with nothing for world finals. I left my house Friday morning heading for lima Ohio I stopped in Columbus Ohio where some loyal DC loving peoples had parts and time to help a fellow DC lovin freak. So I learned how to re-cone and I had a great time at finals. 155.8 in ssnw with out testing aint to bad.

This weekend some db drag friends came over and we rebuilt my box with the subs closer together. This has been suggested many times and I truly did think there would be a gain from doing it. Lost 3 db on first test and after an hour of testing different frequencies and other changes we quit still down 2.5 db.

yep
Damn you've been busy Ben. You coming to Lima, ill be there for IASCA. Van looks good.
yes i received my world finals invite for DB drag i will be doing SSNW i am looking for a 158 outa the van and that will be pushing things to the breaking point. should be exciting.

I know what you mean it used to be confusing to me too. We are in the 2012 season but have not yet had the 2011 world finals LOL. It will be great to see you in lima you will have to meet Anthony from Zanesville he is one of the top three in the world in his class.
Ill be there Ben
Your title has 2011 instead of 2012 lol that's confusing to some people

a few months have passed and i have finished with the fiberglass and sanding inside the van.
we will be doing some testing this weekend for world finals with 8 new batteries and 4 that are one year old.
strapping the vfl500.1s at .25 and rolling with three year old level 5s that have not been re-coned yet.

why what did i miss?
Your a bit late there pal

I was just wondering if anyone from DC will be at the lima Ohio location this year.
Last year was great because Rob was with.
I know there will be lots of team DC competitors at this event.

I do meca sound quality competition. Actually I do all 5 categories at some shows. I have two 18” level 5s and they are my strong point in RTA scoring they hit a perfect number every time. In SQ where the judge sits in and listens to a variety of music they are also a strong part of my system. One of the best meca SQ judges told me that they are the best 18s he has ever listened to.

Hey guys, I am going to be in Columbus this week, on Wednesday the 14th, and I wanted to see about possibly meeting up with some of you. Let me know if your available that day and let's see what we can figure out. I am very eager to meet some of my new teammates, and hopefully get a demo of something really loud! Even w/o the demos, I still want to meet some of you. So, what's up?
If you like music at around 155 db I can give up a demo or two but I live in Zanesville which is about 45 miles east of Columbus.

Love the plate on the deere lol
My wife made that. How are you doing with your rebuild? Are you going to be doing some DB drag this year?

I just realized that it’s been a while since I have posted anything. The van has been a little slow to get done since I have been busy with a house addition. The last pics were of 100 cans of expanding foam going in. i need to take some more pics maybe tonight but here is where i left you all last time and some new stuff.
so i have a made a new amp rack
i will try to get some more pics of whats happening with it tonight.
here is another project that took some time away from the van
it metered better than most of the cars at this show.

I just completed my application form.

I have all the best test equipment oscopes and all. Three HO alternators and a huge battery bank. I can adjust amps too a safe point with test tones but here is what happens to a lot of people including me. When playing music you can run into a track where clipping was recorded into the track on purpose. One guy that does this a lot is Trent Reznor AKA nine inch nails. I can go for weeks without a smell then all of a sudden there it is and at a volume level that’s not even close to pushing the limits of my subs. so when I read this and I see where people are saying certain songs cause a smell I kind or figured I ought to post up this little bit of knowledge for ya.
