In theory, your dad is correct. Big rigs run 24 systems all the time and then use a step down module for accessories.

However, for what you are trying to do, it will not work. You will need to run a 16v charging system with either 16v batteries or pairs of 8v batteries in series. And then you will need a way to charge them. typically a 16v alt that can peak around 18v. or some that can be set to run higher.

You would need one hell of a resistor.

A better way would be to use a cap system that can take a 24v input and put out 12-18v... use a bunch of rectifiers, diodes, and a couple massive coils and you'll get it done much easier than finding a resistor that can handle 6-12KW...

edit - Reminds me i've got some ballasts packed away in a corner that can put out 18v from a 24v source.. i'd ship them to you but that would be expensive and I need to test a few of them if they are any good or not haha.

yeah that's what my dad was saying something about capping it and he said he could find one that big maybe, I guess I'm just gonna stick with 12v so I dint get to far over my head

Thanks for not being a dick head I appreciate it, but the 2nd amp will be with graduation money, and right now Im not running anything becuase I don't have my alt and I don't eanna take chance on hurting my amp with low voltage so I figured waiting till I got my alt to be safe, but i've got a yellow top in it right now, and I've got 3 c&d batteries I'm gonna use untill I get some kinetic 2400s

OP- I wouldnt try it. Its a huge upgrade if you do even 16 volts. Different alternator. Batteries. Stick with a 12v system and just keep a HO alt or 2.

Alrighhht so I was reading on caco and db doc said that the memphis mojo come alive at 17.6v..

Soo I wwas running this by my dad, who is an electrician, and he said I could wire my two batteries in the back in series, and that he could use a resistor to bring them down from 24 to 17.6

Does the sound righht? And would it workk?

i bought 2 l7 12s and an amp from them, and it took a long ass time for everything to get here like 3 and a half weeks but everything worked great and was in perfect condition whenever it got here just took a lonnnnnnnnnnng time

I would do that trade. Probably because I'm more of a fan of spl and loud bass in general. I haven't ever heard either of these subs in a sq install, but have heard both of them in spl installs. One was Carlton Price's Ranger with 6 of the 12's. It did sound pretty good, but I have to agree with James and CC that the Kicker subs don't have a lick of sq to offer. The setup I heard the X 18's in was Steve Mick's Astro van. Not really any sq at 160db on music, but I was still impressed with the bass output. I really think once you get over 145db sq goes out the window anyway unless you have a super clean amp that can make tons of power with almost no thd. Something like maybe the Rockford T15K on a bunch of LMS Ultra's could possibly have sq at 150+db, but that's not in most people's reach for a setup.

Right now I have 3 cvx 15s and a zx 2500 but I'm limited on space right now becuase I have a pos s10 ex cab but I'm gettin a tahoe for christmas and I'm looking to up grade to some 18s and I know btl 18s are only like 500 shipped, so that's what I was thinking about but this guy said he had some atomics and I'd never herd of them so i thought I'd ask, what do yall think I should do
