  1. To get 2.5 ohms you would be wiring them in parallel, not series.

The lower ohm subs would see more power than the higher impedance ones (by the way, 10 ohms? Fucked coils anyone?!?!) so besides the fact that they would already behave differently due to probably having completely different T/S parameters they're going to be even worse off due to the different power. The subs would actually fight each other, especially if they were all together in a sealed box.

All in all it's just a bad idea. I would sell the lot (if they're not half-blown, once again ewww 10 ohms, cooked coils) and buy 1 or 2 higher end subs.

The subs are fine, You obviously do not know JL subs. They are 3 JL 10W012 nominal independance of 12ohms and dc resistance of 10.39 So the coils are just fine.

  2. Why do people come in here and ask us for help, then when we give them our answer, not by one but by MULTIPLE people, disagree and tell us we're wrong? I don't get it

I didn't really disagree with anyone. I simply wanted more information on HOW it would be wrong and effect the out come and performance of the system. I'm sorry if i upset you. It just kinda upsets me when older people come on here and bash me because i'm a youngster and have questions. Like this is the whole point of the FORUM,to help people learn about things and UNDERSTAND. So I am really sorry if i upset or offended anyone, in anyway possible. Sorry. I just really needed the facts.

  3. baby chained?

Daisy Chained.. and having them all in series sill not get you what you want. Parallel is what you want.

Firstly: It is a bad idea to run subs with multiple impedance values because you will be feeding different amounts of power to them due to this. There are creative ways to do your wiring to get around this issue, but with 2 of one type and 3 of another, its not gonna happen.

Secondly: Different coils means different T/S parameters. This means one sub may cause wave cancellation if it is in the same common chamber of another sub that is different. Even being in a different box does not guarantee sound waves will not interact with each other.

You can go ahead and use them all together. It might sound like crap, or it might work. I would lean toward selling the two 10's that match and getting 1 or 2 more that match the first 3.

Thanks alot stevil, You actually explaned to me what the problems instead of bashing me and saying i'm only hitting 125db...I'm all about the science behind subs. I'm not an idiot that thinks just cuz i'm running fi or some other brand i'm going to be louder than the guy running 3 lil 10"s. Thanks alot man for EXPLANING! And So your saying that adding those other 2 subs with the different loads, that they will not be symetrical with the other 3? or they will be drawing more power? How is this when they are all linked together? Sorry i just need to understand, cuz i can't leave things unknown.

  5. "almost", right there is the reason why you shouldnt do shit. just because its "almost" the same doesnt mean its the same which means you shouldnt mix them...you cant throw together random woofers and get a final ohm load of 1,2,4 and say its fine...audio doesnt work like that. yes you can mix woofers together but you have to know wtf your doing and not just slap them together

Umm? I do know what I'm doing. They are all getting chained together. Why is this a problem? what is going to happen? tell me please

  6. Lmao yes there is a problem with mixing subs thats a very bad thing

Enplane to me why this is a bad thing? Taking three 10.39 ohm woofers baby chaining them together so they would be at a 4 ohm load then baby chain the last one to the 2 7.20 ohm subs to give me a 2.5 ohm final load. All the ohms are is resistance. Seriously someone needs to enplane in a professional way to me why this is sooooo bad? Just don't laugh at me and say oh your fucktarded and can't do that....that does not teach me anything!

  7. i had 2 of the jl 12w0 single 4 ohm subs back in the day, and i put them in a large seald box and they did pound! i had people in the back seat of my jeep and they had to have me turn it down. no its was no 20,000 watts or any thing huge but it sounded great especially considering i paid $99 a sub! i still think about if i would have got 4 of them and ran them at 1 ohm what the out come would have been..... but the theory says i would have only gaind 3 db. so is it worth it to put yourself in a higher class (if you compete) just to get 3 db? probably not, but if its street use i guess it has a bling factor....

Ya man I couldn't agree with you any more. The tripple JL W0's sounded amazing..I was just thinking it would be kinda kool to have 5 tens in the back of my S-10 when i get it!!!!!

  8. There's the problem right there mixing subs (different ohm loads) As far as adding the other 2 make a different box and you'll see a volume increase may not be much but an increase is an increase.

Why is it a bad thing to run 2 different ohm woofers together? They are all svc woofers so they will be baby chained together and adding the 2ib4's to the W0's will just give it less resistance.

  9. Firstly, do NOT listen to baaudio

If you have room for a ported box, that would in theory give you 2-3dB's more with the same subs/power. You would easily be able to hear that increase...

You really think it would be a great noticeable difference? And also baaudio might be rite. They are really low wattage subs, and they are real OLD-SKOOL JL subs.I was planing on making a big box For all 5 woofers.Baaudio may have a good point. JL woofers sometimes only sound good in sealed...IMO...I have put my JL 12"s in a sealed and ported and they liked the sealed way better, and they also sounded alot better in the sealed. Maybe not as loud but sounded nice at high levels.

  10. If they are not the same subs I would not suggest mixing subs, despite they are the same brand.

Why? There is no harm in putting different subs together? What would be wrong with that? They are almost the exact same sub....Diff mags and a little different motor. Same foam, same cone, and same kind of basket. Almost same kind of coil too. Just The dub0's i have are 10.39ohms and the 10IB4's are 7.20ohms. And i like this because only running the W0's would give me like a 4ohm load and when i throw in the 2 IB4's It brings it down to a 2.5ohm load...Perfect for a daily bump.

  11. Hey I have 3 10" woofers and I am in the process of refoaming them. They are JL dub0's They sound nice and hit pretty hard. I'm just curious if i add my 2 JL IB4-10"s will it make it any louder..I know it will make the displacement bigger and I will be moving more air. Therefor you would think i would be louder but will it be noticable. Someone told me it would be a wast of my time because it would only give me like 2-5db maybe if i'm lucky...IDK? Give me your feedback. Thanks alot

  12. Hey everyone. I got a bud that bought a used RE SX15 of ebay. Well he got the sub and hooked it up to 1ohm to the elemental nine.1.(elemental desighns biggest amp on the market) The amp is rated for like 1200watts. I think max would be like 1500 on it. Anyways he hooked the sub up and he said he was bumpin it and it just quit. He let me check it out and all the leads are intact, sub moves in and out free with the touch of your hand. The subs v.c.'s both read the correct ohms also. Soooo my question to you guys is what could possibly be wrong with the sub? We hooked it up in several different vehicles whith different amps and setups: same thing no sound out of the sub...None of the amps go into protect or shut off, and all the amps have sufficient power and are well grounded. Please help! I noticed a slight spot by the terminal on one of the v/c's it lookes like melted a smidget. barley noticable. maybe from the factory? no black burnt colors on the lead though? So J/W what you all may think? And my freind was also wondering if it would be possible to take a RE SXX recone and put that in his SX basket and magnet? He was curious if that would work? I don't know much about Re at all so thats why I ask. One more question: Has anyone had problems with the RE SE, or any Re subs + lead wire breaking? I have seen 2 diff RE SE15"s with either 1 or both + lead wires snapped.

  13. I built a passive radiator system with 2 12"s facing back in the trunk and an 18" with the coil, spyder and everything gutted out except for the cone. It worked great. It was really different than other systems. The sound was kinda cool. Alot of work goes into them though. Idk if anyone really understands how to make a box for passive radiators? Someone may say they know but I think they are a big mystery. Trial and error. It was defanitly cool to see 2 12"s and an 18" in a box together! haha...lol...Also i did NOT have any problems with leads breaking or snaping off. I also did not have ANY damage to the 18" sub. I am actually currently rebuilding it for power usage again.

  14. [email protected]

he is the man at DC audio

he built me drop in recones for some sx subs a while back. what i mean by that is: i ripped all the old stuff out, cleaned the spider and surround landings, cleaned the motor gap, dropped in the recone, shimmed it in the coil, glued it down, soldered the leads. and then threw em in the car

hope that clears it up for ya. lol

i think a blown sx goes for about 100 shipped if that

Ok, thanks for the contact info....Ya i was just wondering what you meant when you said he made you some....lol Ok..got it now..lol and do you remember how much the recones costed from him? jw..lol thanks alot man! When i contact Rusty, should i tell him i know you?

Good,Bad about them? I am also wondering if anyone knows where i could get a Re.SX recone for cheaper then $100 bucks? JW? And I am wondering if there is a big sound difference between the RE SE's and RE SX's? Thanks alot you guys...Big Help!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I had both and the sx is alright but compaired to the se it does seem miss some notes. If i play a rock song i can tell a difference quick

.....<So in your opinion the RE.SE hit alot of notes that the SX. Could not? Do you think the SX could get louder than the SE in some situations? Or no? JW your own opinion? I have a buddy that had SE's then he bought a SX and they look almost identical. Same spider,leads,cone,...I also think the baskets are the same, idk don't qoute me on that one though i only seen it for a second. Only noticable difference to me was: the SX's magnet was slightly larger?

  16. i think the re se sounds alot better than the sx. it can't take the power the sx can though

the eclipse ti is a great woofer as well

    i would also contact fixmyspeaker

rusty at dc audio has built recones for some sx's for me. i think they were about 100 bucks

......Also, do you know for a fact if fixmyspeaker.com has recones for a eclipse titanium 15"? jw...lol sorry for the stupid questions. I am a senior in H.S. and I have been into car audio since i was 14. I use to set the big kids shyt up when i was a freshman...lol. Ya hit me up again and let me know if they do?

I'm sorry i don't know who Rusty is? any contact info? And When he built you some recones what does that mean? You sent him your old one and he put a new coil, leads, and spider on it? or he just made you a complete new one? Also what do you guys think a blown sx shud cost? Sub in pretty good shape, just unraveled that coil.

  18. Ya seriously, people that get caught up with having to have name-brand stuff, sometimes are not the brightest. I've had a few freinds run thick ass house wire through there car...haha...lol I laughed so hard after they texted me and told me to come over and see there new 0gauge. But you know what? It still powered the amp efficiently and did not clip. It didn't melt or anything either. It was impossible to work with and really hard to strip the insulator coating off it but it worked and it was free! They found it at a old house that was getting gutted.

  20. Hey I'm from the wonderful state of Wisconson. I am finally deciding to make an appearance at a car audio comp. I am just wondering if anyone could supply me with the locations of comps, rules of the comps around here, also what audio association hold the comp? I am from the mid-west portion of the state. Thanks alot guys! Also feel free to add how you did at them.

  21. lolololol no as in my friend that works with me has them my sons only 4 i sure hope he didnt teach me everything i know....... but i will damn sure be teaching him

Haaaaa! lol my bad! my bad! lol thats funny....Ya...I'm looking for a pair of these or I am thinking just going with a JL W7 13. I have an opp. to buy a w3 18 too...lol Idk wat to do...But ya thats sooooo cool that your going to be teaching your son everything there is about car audio, really that will make you guys really close..lol You said he is 4? Does he already like ur boom booms?
